Join me Huskies!! This class is going to be amazing! This course combines Indoor Cycling (AKA 'Bicycle Spinning') using the stationary bike with off-the-bike exercises for a full body workout. Students ride along to upbeat music as they burn a substantial amount of calories, lengthen and strengthen muscles, build core stability, tone biceps and triceps, and improve their cardiovascular health.

Meet Adjunct Instructor Lonnie Teper! Mr. Teper began teaching both Health and PE (now Kinesiology) as an Adjunct in the Fall of 1995. That makes him the longest serving adjunct in the department! He has also been the department's Adjunct Rep since the position was created.

Mr. Teper earned an AA degree from ELAC before going on to obtain a degree in Journalism/Radio TV from Cal State Long Beach. Teper worked in the field of sports journalism for several years, then went to Cal State Los Angeles to complete studies for a Masters Degree in Physical Education. Mr. Teper was named "Outstanding Graduate Student" at CSLA, and was a long time instructor in both Journalism and PE at the university.

Meet our Cheerleading Coach and adjunct instructor Eva Lopez Zepeda! ELAC has been a second home to Mrs. Zepeda for 20 years. Her foundation at ELAC was formed as a student. She dedicated 17 years to ELAC honoring the role as an Adjunct Kinesiology Instructor, Cheerleading Head Coach, and Pep Squad Club Advisor.

Mrs. Lopez earned the opportunity to teach a wide array of Kinesiology, Kinesiology Athletic, and Health Classes at the ELAC Main Campus, Southgate Campus, and with College Partners Program with High School Students.

Mrs. Lopez loves that the Kinesiology department offers amazing opportunities and contiues to expand each year. Mrs. Lopez states, “This is afforded by a diverse group of instructors with an array of master degrees with emphasis in multiple specialties connected to the discipline of kinesiology. Having instructors with strong backgrounds with multiple specialties in the study of kinesiology allows us to offer more classes for students of all skill levels, age, experience, and future Kinesiologists who study within the department.”

There isn't one favorite thing about the department for Mrs. Lopez. She states, “It is incomparable. Together with the instructors'  education, experience, and united mission to expand kinesiology opportunities for students, the department creates a chance for students to take world wide evolving classes, and study multiple kinesiology programs that lead to earning certificates, degrees, and a chance to find careers connected to kinesiology. “

Mrs. Lopez is a Leo, Hear HER Roar! While she likes peace and tranquility like a lion that sleeps, she also likes to take adventurous hikes. Mrs. Lopez thinks her students would quote her saying "keep your chin up, mind and body in control, and make each movement with sharp intentions." It is a philosophy that she stands by that can help students be productive individuals in and out of a classroom.

Meet Professor James Hines!
Mr. Hines has been teaching at ELAC for 23 years. He started out as a student-athlete at ELAC back in the fall of 1991. EAst Los Angeles College has been his home ever since, with a one-year interruption when he transferred to CSUN to play baseball. He was the head baseball coach at ELAC for 23 years and an assistant athletic director for 2 years. Mr. Hines loves that our students remind him of himself when he came to ELAC as a student: uncertain of the direction he wanted to go, but hungry for knowledge and a path to success.

Professor Hines teaches both Kinesiology (Weight Training, Intro to Kin, and Intro to Coaching Athletics) and Health (7, 11, 15). He loves that the kinesiology department possesses one of the most diverse offerings of courses in the state. His favorite quote is, “The best way of training the young is to train yourself at the same time. Not to admonish them, but to be seen never doing that of which you would admonish them." - Plato

Meet our Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Professor Bobby Godinez! Mr. Godinez has been at ELAC for seven years and teaches Health & Fitness, Fitness & Nutrition, Principles of Healthful Living, and Kin Athletics.

His favorite thing about the Kinesiology department is that the faculty is passionate about what they do and as a department have a major footprint on campus.  The footprint extends from the number of students, to certificate completion and success, plus degree completion.

Something interesting about Mr. Godinez is that at the beginning of his career as a football coach, prior to teaching, between 2008-2012, his family moved 13 times and went from the west coast to the east coast and finished back here on the west.  Thats the life of a coach. Mr. Godinez has two favorite quotes:

“Everything negative - pressures, challenges - is all an opportunity for me to rise." - Kobe Bryant

“I can't relate to lazy people.  We don't speak the same language.  I don't understand you.  I don't want to understand you." - Kobe Bryant
