On April 4, 2025, members of the Central Michigan University Student Government Association Cabinet had the honor of attending the inauguration ceremony of Dr. Neil MacKinnon, the 16th president of CMU.

This historic occasion marks a new chapter in the university’s legacy. The SGA Cabinet was proud to represent the student body at this significant event and looks forward to continued collaboration with President MacKinnon as we work together to support and elevate the student experience at CMU.

Yesterday, the Central Michigan University community officially welcomed its 16th president at "The Investiture of President Neil MacKinnon". In a ceremony rooted in tradition and forward-looking vision, President MacKinnon addressed the university and shared his plans for CMU’s future. The event also featured the unveiling of CMU’s official tartan—honoring our traditions while looking ahead with pride.

The ceremony included a special moment from the student body, as the SGA Vice-President Aashka Barot shared remarks on behalf of SGA President Carolina Hernandez Ruiz, reflecting the voices and hopes of CMU students.

This April 12th event is a fundraiser for CMU’s NAISO Program and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.  All money raised is donated to both groups.  To participate in the 5K, there is a $15 registration fee, which includes a racing bib (and the chance to receive a medal!). It is free to participate in the 1 Mile Walk. Snacks after the race will be provided and there will be a speaker before the race/walk begins.  Volunteers are needed to help the event run smoothly.  Please email [email protected], [email protected], or [email protected] with any questions.

This past weekend, CMU SGA had the incredible opportunity to attend the Michigan Annual Student Governance Conference, hosted by Oakland University! 📚

We engaged in meaningful conversations with student leaders from across the state, exchanging ideas and discussing ways to enhance student life on our campuses. 🌍💡 Not only did we participate, but we also led four breakout sessions, sharing insights and learning from others.

A huge thank you to Oakland University for hosting such an amazing event! We are grateful for this experience and excited to bring back new ideas to CMU. 💛🔥

Two weeks ago, our Student Body President, Carolina Hernandez Ruiz was invited to the 100 Day Reflection Event hosted by President MacKinnon. During this event, President MacKinnon shared his thoughts about his experience so far as CMU president, as well as what his goals are. One of those goals are the creation of Go Grants, a pool of money for anyone at CMU with an idea about how to improve our community! During this event, Carolina led the Fireside Chat, where she asked President MacKinnon how his transition was, what is his vision for CMU! Thankful for President MacKinnon for always finding ways to engage with students across campus!
