Our Story

The Speech Language Acquisition & Multilingualism (SLAM) Lab at the University of Delaware is a research lab in the College of Health Sciences. Under the direction of Dr. Giovanna Morini, we study a variety of questions related to how and when children learn language. We do studies with typically developing kids, monolingual and multilingual kids as well as children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

Most of our studies only involve a single visit to the lab. Visits to the lab last generally last between 30-40 minutes, and you stay with your child at all times. We try to make the studies as fun as possible, and at the end your child receives a small gift for participating (i.e. a toy, t-shirt, book, etc.). While we are operate from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, we do accommodate evening and weekend appointments. For more information on our research and lab team, check out our website. Our research is made possible thanks to families who generously take the time to visit our lab & participate in studies. If you think you might be interested in participating with your child, either now or in the future, please contact us! You can also join our research list by completing this quick survey!
