“Which one of you is going to tell him that?” Kevin’s mother fired back at the high school teachers who doubted he could graduate. Her belief sparked the drive that carried him to a diploma and fueled dreams of college.

But when both of his parents fell ill, Kevin put those dreams on hold to care for them. After their passing, he felt a powerful pull back to education and UOPX became an anchor – offering the flexibility to continue his studies while working and moving forward with life.

As graduation nears, Kevin reflects, “While I wish my mom and dad were here, I know they’d be so proud. It’s never too late to achieve your dreams.”

Candice’s journey is one of unbreakable resilience.

After dedicating 15 years to genomic cancer research, she was laid off, then faced a cancer diagnosis of her own that left her with a disability.

Refusing to let these setbacks define her, she moved forward, embracing the mindset that “life happens.”

Her search to find a place in the world again led to the UOPX Master of Public Health program – where, she says, “every person I’ve encountered has been encouraging, kind and delightful.”

Candice is now driven to make a lasting impact in healthcare, bringing empathy and purpose to every step.
