We help ensure the growth and development of PCC by providing support that bridges the gap between the college's needs and state-funded resources.

The Pasadena City College Foundation was incorporated in 1979 as a non-profit, charitable, public-benefit corporation. Established by a group of individuals from the college and community, and partially funded by a grant from the Ahmanson Foundation, the PCC Foundation was formed to raise private funds to maintain a high level of excellence at a time of declining public funding. Today the Foundati

on is governed by a 33 person Board of Directors who are civic and business leaders from the community, elected for three-year terms. Funds raised by the Foundation include donations from individuals, corporations, and local foundations. The Foundation Board is also the governing agency of the Alumni Association. Some of the areas that benefit from the funds raised are major capital projects, equipment to ensure technological excellence, programs which provide special services to the students and the community, faculty grants, and student scholarships. Since 2008, the Pasadena City College Foundation has awarded more than 4,200 scholarships totaling nearly $1.9 million to deserving students, and our hope is to continue to bring this kind of help to our community for many years to come.

The PCC Flea Market started in 1977 when the Associated Student rummage sale moved from the football field to one of the college parking lots. The Market is held the first Sunday of every month (except January) and offers a variety of items from antiques to clothing to Hollywood memorabilia. An Academy Award Oscar, missing for more than 30 years, was once discovered at the Flea Market.

The help and organizational skills of dozens of people in the PCC community generate hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for the office of student activities for scholarships.

The next PCC Flea Market will be held this Sunday, May 5th - see you all there!

Yesterday, the PCC Foundation had the pleasure of hosting best-selling author and podcaster Lian Dolan, interviewed by editor and writer Chris Erskine, at its latest Hometown Legends Series event. A graduate of Pomona College, Lian lives in Pasadena. Her novel, The Marriage Sabbatical, was released in April 2024.

In December, PCC biology major Stephanie Johnson was awarded the Mary S. Uchiyama Scholarship, which honors the life and legacy of Mary Suzanna Uchiyama. Mary was born on November 30, 1925, in San Francisco. Her family was relocated to the Topaz Relocation Center for most of World War II. Mary taught elementary school in her internment camp and moved to Chicago after the war, where she met her husband, Aiji Uchiyama. The family moved to Pasadena in 1952 where Mary taught cooking and sewing here at PCC. Over the years, she and her family helped many people to afford a college education. She dreamed of one day being able to help all immigrants who, like her, wanted so badly to attend college. Way to go, Stephanie!
