From Bucky to Blueprint!

In the wake of a campus visit from legendary architect and futurist, Buckminster Fuller, ArtCenter students didn’t just take notes—they took action.

This archival gem from the 1970s captures a student building a geodesic dome, inspired by Fuller’s vision of sustainable, systems-based design.

📸 Panorama isn’t just a wide view—it’s a full picture of the creativity pulsing through ArtCenter.

From bold installations to deeply personal pieces, Panorama, our third annual staff art exhibition lit up ArtCenter's 870 building with imagination, heart, and humor. Big love to the artists who brought their whole selves to this show. You make ArtCenter what it is. 💡🎨

Special kudos to Jennifer Faist and all of Staff Council on a stellar show.

In a moment when q***r voices are increasingly under pressure, it's vital to recognize the creative contributions and cultural impact of LGBTQ+ artists, past and present.

Opening Monday, June 16 at the Getty Museum, Q***r Lens: A History of Photography, curated by Paul Martineau, offers a compelling exploration of photography through q***r perspectives. We're proud to share that among the featured artists is ArtCenter alum Matthew Rolston, whose portrait of Jodie Foster marks his first work to be exhibited at the Getty.

Originally commissioned in 1991 for Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine to mark Foster’s directorial debut “Little Man Tate”, the image is one of 20 Rolston works acquired last year by Martineau for the museum’s permanent collection. It also featured in Hollywood Royale: Out of the School of Los Angeles, a retrospective of Rolston’s first decade of work.

Known for his cinematic style and conceptual approach, Rolston’s portraits from this period often layered Hollywood iconography with subtle commentary on identity and authorship. In this photograph, he drew inspiration from pioneering director Dorothy Arzner, the only woman directing studio features in Hollywood from 1927 to 1943, and the first woman admitted to the DGA. Rolston’s reference to Arzner pays quiet tribute to a lineage of q***r and female filmmakers, including Foster, who continue to lay the groundwork for generations to come.

We celebrate Matthew Rolston’s continued impact and this well-deserved recognition of his work within a broader, ongoing dialogue about q***r history in the arts.

Q***r Lens is on view at the Getty from June 17 to September 28, 2025.

“Here’s to the crazy ones…” 🧡

And here's to a few Quick Questions with Advertising legend Lee Clow—founding partner of Chiat/Day whose 30+ year partnership with Steve Jobs yielded the iconic 1984 ad introducing the Think Different campaign.

Clow visited ArtCenter for a special screening of "Here's to the Crazy Ones," the new documentary about his life and legacy and shared what it was like working with Steve Jobs and crafting the unforgettable “crazy ones” ad that changed advertising forever.

🎬 Hosted by Full Circle, ArtCenter’s community of alumni, parents and friends, the afternoon was a powerful reminder that creativity has the power to challenge the status quo.

🚗💨 A Day in the Life with Transportation Design student Camila Cardona

For Camila, cars aren’t just a passion—they’re a lifestyle.

She starts her day behind the wheel of her lipstick-red Nissan and ends it racing model cars for a class final. In between? She’s deep in VR, sculpting sleek concept vehicles for a more dynamic future.

Whether it’s virtual prototyping or high-speed test laps, Camila brings the same energy to every curve—on screen, on track, and on campus.

⚾️ Big League Creativity Meets Pride Month! 🌈

Last week the Seattle Mariners knocked it out of the park with the launch of a Pride campaign that celebrates authenticity, inclusion, and community. And, as an MLB first, the one-of-a-kind "Pride Ball" will travel from Seattle to more MLB clubs across the country to be a part of Pride Nights throughout June!

The campaign was spearheaded by ArtCenter alum Keri Zierler (BFA Advertising), now Creative Director for the Mariners. From Pasadena to the Pacific Northwest, her award-winning creative journey has connected tech, sports, identity, and design in powerful ways.

ArtCenter Trained. Vuitton Hired. 🧳✂️

This week, students met with two alumni whose creative paths took an unexpected—and luxurious—turn.

Sean Ghobad and Tiffany Liu, now Artisans at Louis Vuitton, returned to campus yesterday to share how their ArtCenter education prepared them for a world of craftsmanship, innovation and precision.

From fine stitching to painting legacy pieces by hand, they reminded students that design doesn’t always end at the screen—it can begin with the materials in your hands.

✨ Access to alumni like Sean and Tiffany offers students real-world insight into how a design education can open doors in even the most exclusive ateliers.

This , we’re spotlighting recent grad and Student Leadership Award winner Ciara Hart and her campaign OUTLOUD—a fictional collaboration between Spotify and Dr. Martens celebrating q***r joy and visibility. 🎶🌈

“By creating a band whose members represent different LGBTQ+ flags, the campaign centers inclusion and celebrates diversity—something we need to do now more than ever.” — Ciara Hart

Throughout her time at ArtCenter, Ciara led with her values—building community, advocating for inclusivity, and using design to amplify voices that too often go unheard. Her work is a vibrant reminder that Pride isn’t just a moment—it’s a movement, lived and expressed every day.

Here’s to design with purpose. And to the artists who make space for others in what create.
