Letter From SUPAC President Jenny Sacks
It is time that I inform our membership base that the SU Alumni Association (SUAA) and the Office of Alumni Engagement (OAE) are instituting new by-laws to govern all alumni clubs. As part of those by-laws, almost all SUPAC Board Members will be term limited as of June 30, 2019, and are no longer permitted to serve as club leaders. In March, SU sent out an addendum to those by-laws, instituting a staggered roll out period of 1 or 2 years, depending on the club. This would have allowed our board members to run for office to continue to lead the club for ONE additional year (to help during the transition period). Our board unanimously rejected this addendum. As a result, I have decided that I will NOT serve as Club President after June 30, 2019 thereby ending my tenure on the board and ALL CURRENT BOARD MEMBERS will also be resigning at that time.
Last month you all should have received an email soliciting participation to serve as alumni club leaders. This email was sent by SU to the OAE email blast list that covers a larger number of alumni (to which we have not had direct access). In addition to looking for new club leadership, this email announced that elections would be held on Saturday, June 8th. We are uncertain what will become of SUPAC due to the changes being made by the University. We are saddened that they are forcing out some of the BEST volunteers that have given countless hours to SUPAC. Volunteers have made what SUPAC is today and I can't THANK ALL OF YOU enough for what you have done for the Club and for our community.
I have enjoyed our time together for the last 10 years and I hope you have too. It truly has been a JOY meeting all those who bleed ORANGE over the years. SUPAC has been my extended family here in Philadelphia. The volunteers, the alumni base and their supportive family and friends are what has made the University and the Club so incredibly amazing. The focus of SUPAC was never on donations, instead it's been about the relationships we built together and it's always been an extension of our family and part of our community! We only hope this continues to be the case.
Lastly, I would like to THANK my board who made the last 10 years the best years of my volunteering life. Without them, this Club wouldn't be as special as it is today. I would also like to thank Andy Laver for mentoring me and seeing this through to the end, and of course, my husband for being next to me this entire time.
Moving forward, please email me directly at [email protected] if you have any questions/concerns/comments.
Please stay in touch! It has been an absolute pleasure working with and for you!
