Akash completed his BSc in Economics from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore.

Why did you choose the IDEC Program and what are you excited about?

“I've decided to pursue my Masters in IDEC since I was always interested in Economics, especially development economics and I feel that IDEC will be a great foundation for my PhD plans in Economics”

✨New Student Spotlight✨

Today at , we feature Yan Naing Aung, a 1st-year Applied Economics Student. Yan is from Yangon, Myanmar. He got his undergraduate degree in Managerial Economics with an emphasis in Business Economics along with a minor in Technology Management from the University of California, Davis. Upon graduating, he worked as a staff accountant at Opendoor before deciding to further his education here at USF.

Why did you choose the AE program and what are you excited about?

" I chose to pursue my master's in Applied Economics at USF because I want to learn more about the quantitative aspect of economics and the process of making good business decisions based on the available data. Due to the location of the campus, there's a plethora of internships and full-time opportunities that align with my professional goals.

I enjoy living in San Francisco because even after living here for a year, there are always new things to do in or around the city. I am also very excited to meet and network with peers and faculty from the USF community. Personally, I prefer a cooler climate so San Francisco seemed like the perfect place to live for the next two years."

✨New Student Spotlight✨

Today at , we feature Jill Adona, a 1st-year Applied Economics Student. Jill is from the Philippines, where she has worked over nine years in economic research at the government think tank (Philippine Institute for Development Studies), the Asian Development Bank, and the World Bank. She earned her Master's in Development Economics from the University of the Philippines.

Why did you choose the AE program and what are you excited about ?

"I recently earned my MITx MicroMasters in Data, Economics, and Development Policy and USF offers a pathway to the MS Applied Economics degree. I hope to learn ways to capture and use novel data, and apply more rigorous methods to create cleverer, useful research.

Learning from professors who have been trained in the some of the best economics programs in the world. USF has such a good rep on , I think, for training its students towards PhD programs!"
