Students in Berlin explored the future of healthcare at our recent curricular experience, 'Berlin's Health Pioneers.' With many seniors focusing their Capstone projects on health, the student life team in Berlin designed an immersive experience to introduce them to Germany’s healthcare innovations.

Our students visited Vision Health Pioneers Incubator and heard from CEO Maren Lesche about the German healthcare landscape. They also engaged with MilkyV, a pioneering startup in women’s health, and participated in a hands-on innovation game with HeidiMed, a new app supporting elderly medication management. From fertility advancements to digital health, students got a firsthand look at groundbreaking work in the field.

Happy from Minerva University!

Minerva students don’t just study STEM—they dive headfirst into research internationally, making contributions to science and sustainability in the cities they rotate through. Swipe through the photos to learn more about some of our students' involvement.

1️⃣ Yerkezhan, Class of 2027 – Researching the mechanisms underlying chromosome dynamics and reorganization during meiosis in C. elegans at UC Berkeley’s Abby Dernburg Lab.

"My research focuses on the role of the GapR protein in DNA supercoiling, utilizing CRISPR-Cas9, PCR, and gel electrophoresis techniques. I also perform worm injections and maintain meticulous experimental records." - Yerkezhan, Class of 2027

2️⃣ & 3️⃣ Cassandra & Jun Qi, Class of 2025 – Testing algae's potential to purify wastewater in a biotechnology lab at Universidad Maimónides, Buenos Aires.

"If successful, this method can be used to bioremediate natural water resources by reducing the biochemical oxygen demand of wastewater, which would ultimately contribute to environmental sustainability." - Jun Qi, Class of 2025

4️⃣ Dimitar, Class of 2025 – Studying brain cell vulnerability in FTD and comparing across primates, using scRNA-seq and immunohistochemistry at UCSF's Pollen Lab.

"I am working on a project to understand a newly discovered protein aggregate in FTD and the transcriptomic profile of a cell class that is selectively vulnerable in bvFTD. I am also trying to understand how those cells are different between humans and other primates. To achieve those goals I am using different wet-lab and computational techniques, including immunohistochemistry and scRNA-seq analysis." - Dimitar, Class of 2025

The Class of 2027 recently had an inspiring day at the World Press Photo Exhibition in Taipei. Students engaged with art curators and exhibition organizers and reflected on 20 years of powerful photojournalism. In a creative twist, students wrote heartfelt letters to ‘the Mother,’ ‘the Ocean,’ or a soldier, with their words transformed into a moving sitar composition by the Japanese musician Ryohei Kanemitsu.
