Kudos to MPH student Elise Brown, who presented at the APHA 2024, "Frustrated, Nervous, and Afraid: Young Peoples’ Feelings about Climate Change in Northern California."

Climate change is a significant concern, especially among young people. Global research shows that youth have positive and negative emotions about climate change. The present study explored variations in climate anxiety among young adults in northern California, where extreme weather is increasingly impacting the environment.

Thanks to alumna Gwen Anderson, student Esmeralda Felix, and Professor L'Engle for their guidance and support.

From immigration policy, to public education and public health, criminal justice and climate change reform, we have to vote for leaders to ensure that our justice systems reflect the values of the communities they serve. We have a chance to hold leaders accountable and have our collective voices heard for ourselves and for the communities that don't have the privilege of voting.

Nurse Leaders Who Embody Our Mission
Dr. Alicia Kletter

Dr. Kletter has developed and widely presented education and training related to perinatal opioid use disorders and methadone maintenance. Her work has profoundly impacted numerous agencies and disciplines, including nursing, law enforcement, family nursing courses, and social service agencies. She has also worked extensively with students, community workers, and BAART interns, leaving a lasting impression on all those she has interacted with.

Dr. Kletter's approach to healthcare is unique and inspiring. In an interview, she shared, "I encourage students to work with professionals from different fields to understand the complexities of healthcare and not be afraid of stigmatized illnesses or diseases. It's our job to ask, find out, and educate ourselves on what to do next. Patients consume information from ever-evolving platforms every day. To provide the care they need, we must be limber thinkers, wading through the marketing material to make a connection. Listen first, judge less, and offer a plan in collaboration with the patient!"

Our Story

The University of San Francisco's School of Nursing and Health Professions was founded in 1954 and was the first private university nursing program in California. We’ve created a strong nursing and health professions community committed to a life of learning built on a foundation of innovative ideas that stay true to our core Jesuit values. The School of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of San Francisco advances the mission of the university by preparing health professionals to address the determinants of health, promote policy and advocacy and provide a moral compass to transform health care in order to further equity and positively influence quality, delivery, and access.
