Discover how social media mirrors evolving consciousness and can be a space for ethical expression, inquiry, and cultural renewal.

This talk explores how the layered nature of social media reflects evolving modes of consciousness and how we might approach digital platforms as sites for meaningful inquiry, ethical self-expression, and collective transformation. In the spirit of transformative leadership, we’ll consider how tending to our digital presence can become a form of conscious world-making—where inner work meets outer engagement in service of cultural renewal.

Host Bio: Ashton K. Arnoldy is, by training, a multimedia artist, philosopher, astrologer, and Ph.D. graduate in the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program at the California Institute of Integral Studies. His dissertation work aims for a postcolonial recuperation of metanarrative in the poetic, participatory philosophy of Owen Barfield.

We invite you to join Transformative Studies Ph.D. professor Jeanine Canty, Ph.D. to talk about Ecological and Social Healing and learn how these strands are held within the program.

🦋 Jeanine M. Canty, Ph.D., is a professor of transformative studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco, telecommuting from Boulder, CO. A lover of nature, justice, and contemplative practice, her teaching intersects issues of social and ecological justice, ecopsychology, and the process of worldview expansion and change. She is author of Returning the Self to Nature: Undoing Our Collective Narcissism and Healing Our Planet and both editor and contributor to the books Ecological and Social Healing: Multicultural Women’s Voices and Globalism and Localization: Emergent Approaches to Ecological and Social Crises. Her newest book is an expanded, second edition of Ecological and Social Healing: Multicultural Women’s Voices (Routledge, April 2025).

The Creative Futures Focus challenges students how to think about compelling futures, envision what better futures might be like, and explore emerging practices that support the creation and embodiment of more desirable personal and collective futures.

The focus is an official designation that requires three courses (two mandatory, one selected from a list of electives), and when completed will appear on students’ transcripts. The Creative Futures Focus is open to all Transformative Leadership (MA) and Transformative Studies (PhD) students.

We are honored to spotlight Transformative Studies Ph.D. student Dr. Anthony J. Santiago!

Anthony is a clinician-scientist-educator, board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with academic appointments as a professor and senior research fellow. He has been the investigator of 75 funded research trials, director of several post- graduate residency and fellowship training programs, author of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and an award-winning educator and clinician noted for his humanism toward learners and patients. He has secured funding of over $900M for the institutions he has served. He has his Masters in Management and Strategic Leadership, is a Certified Physician Executive who previously led academic divisions and institutes, and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer for a health care system in Arizona.

We emphasize an integrative care model because the modern biomedical model fails to address the social and structural determinants of health that play a leading role in health outcomes.
