We are very excited to introduce you to Nathan Griffin and Harleigh Baker. Both are graduating soon from Burlington High School. Nathan will be playing trombone with the SC band in the fall and majoring in Music Education. Harleigh will be playing tenor sax with the band and majoring in Elementary Education. The first Jazz Band tour of the semester is in the books. 12 hours on the road, nearly 300 miles and three great performances at Wichita Trinity Academy, Circle High School and Eureka High School. Proud of my students for the great musicianship they showed and for being awesome people!

We are excited to announce that 9 members of the Sterling College Band have been selected to perform in the Kansas Intercollegiate Band which will perform at the Kansas Music Educators’ Association Inservice Workshop at Century II in Wichita on February 23. The students auditioned for the band and were selected by a panel of collegiate directors.

Here’s the SC Pep Band getting things started tonight.

Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll hear Saturday evening at the SC football game. We hope you’ll come support the warriors and enjoy some tunes while you’re there.

Here’s a video of our newest Warrior singing with the SC Jazz Band. Copper Collins, senior at Pretty Prairie HS and future music education major at SC, sang with us this week at our jazz performance at PPHS. We are excited that she will be joining us next fall!!

We had our first rehearsal with the SC/HCC combined bands. We are joining together for our fall concert. We perform at HCC on Oct 20 and at SC on Oct 30. Here is a clip from rehearsal.

Today, SC alum and director of bands, Larry Brownlee, along with 4 other SC alumni, Clark, Kay, Kyler and Alex Comley, current SC junior, Bryson Brownlee, and Amy and Bella Brownlee sang the national anthem at the grandstand at the Kansas State Fair. Way to represent, SC!

Our Story

The Sterling College Music Department is home to vocalists and instrumentalists who seek to demonstrate God's love through musical excellence. The department offers programs and degrees that meet the current needs in the field of music, music education, and worship. Our students benefit from many performance opportunities. Our ensembles perform regularly on campus, at schools and churches in the surrounding communities, and throughout the nation on annual tours. In both practice and performance, the department creates a Christ-centered learning environment that provides the highest order of education in all essential aspects of music.
