Lourdes is a community of learning. In the Franciscan tradition, the love of learning stems from a desire to grow in our understanding of God, of creation, and of each other. The quest for truth, understanding, and excellence in academic disciplines allows for growth and transformation to take place both in ourselves and in the world around us.
In our next segment of Meet a First Semester Nursing Student, today we introduce Savannah Dombroff.

1. When did you know you wanted to go into Nursing?

I knew I wanted to be in the healthcare field since Elementary school, but I didn’t decide on being a nurse until my freshman year of high school. I’ve always had a passion for helping others and I wanted to do that in a way no one else could.

2. Who Inspired you to go into Nursing and why?

Both of my grandmas inspired me to go into Nursing. They both have different perspectives of the healthcare system, which exposed me to how each job is equally as important. Also, they would tell me stories about their experiences and seeing how passionate they were about helping others provoked me into also wanting the same feeling.

3. What do you enjoy most about Lourdes? Specifically, the Nursing Department?

I love how caring and understanding my professors have been. They make lecture and lab enjoyable while also teaching us useful skills.

4. Where do you see yourself after you graduate? Professionally and personally?

After I graduate, I hope to become a N.I.C.U. nurse or Labor and Delivery. I hope that in the future I never stop wanting to learn more about nursing and to continue to challenge myself.

5. What do you enjoy doing outside of Classes?

Honestly…sleeping whenever I can.

6. Any pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?

I have an American Bulldog named Buddy and three kittens named Daisy, Peaches, and Luna.

7. Favorite Movie?

Priscilla

8. Favorite Book?

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

9. Favorite Junk food?

Ice cream

10. If you could travel anywhere in the World, where would you go and what 1 person would you take with you?

I’ve always wanted to visit Paris, France and I would take my mom with me.

Lourdes University expresses its Franciscan identity as a Community: 1st and foremost, we are a community of learning.
Today, we take the time to introduce, and learn about one of our first semester BSN students: Madison Hutka.
This is the start of our "Meet a First Semester" Series. More to follow!
1. When did you know you wanted to go into Nursing?
I knew that I wanted to go into Nursing because ever since I was about 5 years old, I was always interested in the medical procedures I saw healthcare workers performing and wanted to learn more about various medical things. I always pretended to play doctor when I was younger and even had a toy medical kit. I also have always been a very compassionate person and enjoy helping people.
2. Who Inspired you to go into Nursing and why? My mom, sister, and Medical Technology teachers in high school inspired me to go into nursing. My mom inspired me because she, too, wanted to go into nursing when she was younger and had actually got accepted into Lourdes, but due to personal reasons she was not able to attend college, so she inspires me to fulfill my dreams that were once hers as well. My sister, who sadly passed away when I was in 6th grade, inspired me because she had cerebral palsy, so I was always going to many different doctors appointments and physical therapy with her and my mom which sparked my interest of the medical field. Finally, my Medical Technology teachers in high school inspired me because I wasn’t too sure if I had wanted to go into nursing specifically until my junior year of high school, which is when I started the medtech program that my school had. We learned many components about nursing that helped solidify my choice.
3. What do you enjoy most about Lourdes? Specifically, the Nursing Department? What I enjoy the most about both Lourdes in general and the nursing department at Lourdes is how welcoming the staff has been and also helpful in guiding us students into a good path to succeed. I can tell that they want nothing but the best for us. I also am very glad to have met the friends that I did through pre-nursing and the nursing program at Lourdes.
4. Where do you see yourself after you graduate? Professionally and personally? After I graduate, I see myself potentially moving into a house with my boyfriend possibly in a different state. I see myself becoming a labor and delivery nurse, which is my ultimate goal when graduating college.
5. What do you enjoy doing outside of Classes? I enjoy doing my sport, which is competitive cheer and hanging out with my boyfriend and friends.
6. Any pets? If so, what kind and what are their names? I have a Rottweiler at home named Piper :)
7. Favorite Movie? The Notebook and I love horror movies.
8. Favorite Book? I honestly don’t have one!
9. Favorite Junk food? Homemade brownies or Chick-fil-A
10. If you could travel anywhere in the World, where would you go and what 1 person would you take with you? I would want to go to the Bahamas with my boyfriend because we both need a vacation!
