Staff Spotlight
Dr. F. Scott Hall
Associate Vice President of Research and Sponsored Programs,
Research Integrity Officer, and
Professor of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics

Scott started working at UToledo in 2014 as an Assistant Professor. Since that time, he has transitioned to Associate Professor, Full Professor, Director of the Pharmacology and Toxicology BS in Pharmaceutical Science Program, and, in 2025, the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) and Research Integrity Officer. Prior to joining RSP he served as the IACUC Chair.

His research has focused primarily upon the genetic basis of addiction and the role that early social experience plays in shaping adult behavior and behavioral pathology. After a B.A. from Harvard University (1987) and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge (1994), he completed a National Research Council Research Associateship at the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse. His research at NIAAA focused on animal models of schizophrenia and alcohol use disorder. He joined the Molecular Neurobiology Branch at the National Institute on Drug Abuse in 1999 where he led a behavioral genetics group in the Molecular Neurobiology Branch until 2014, when he moved to UToledo. Dr. Hall’s laboratory investigates the genetic and environmental determinants of susceptibility to addiction and related psychiatric disorders. His long-standing interest in the underlying mechanisms leading to the development of psychopathology has contributed to advancements in models used to identify novel potential targets for the treatment of psychiatric disorders. His most current research focuses on the lethal toxicity of amphetamines and synthetic cathinones (e.g. “bath salts”). Dr. Hall has authored over 175 scientific publications. He is the Past-President of the International Behavioral Neuroscience Society.

A fun fact about Scott is that he has a black belt in Hapkido. Welcome to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs!

Today we celebrated International Women's Day at the Imagination Station participating in the annual Girl Power event with our students.

It's always so fulfilling to spend fun time with the next generation of scientists. We had a Pink Glam Lab workshop in the morning with about 60 girls, and then had an activity table with a sensory station, bracelet station, and made 161 lip glosses at our lip gloss station!

Thank you for the invite, . And thank you for all of our student volunteers, we couldn't have done this without your help!
