It’s Firstie Friday! This week we have MIDN 1/C McQuagge.

MIDN McQuagge is from Colts Neck, New Jersey and majoring in Information Science. He service selected Surface Warfare and recently selected his first ship, LPD 17 USS San Antonio! In his free time, he enjoys nature, reading, lifting, and playing basketball.
MIDN McQuagge’s favorite NROTC memory is when Middripmen (our unit’s intramural basketball team) won the basketball championship! After commissioning, he is excited to travel, explore new places, and sail the seas!

Happy Firstie Friday! This week we will be highlighting MIDN 1/C Jeong.

MIDN Jeong is from Frederick, Maryland, majoring in Information Science and service selected Surface Warfare! In his free time, he likes to work out, run, and play basketball.
MIDN Jeong’s favorite NROTC memories are when MIDN 1/C Carmichael sang the Marine Corps Hymn at New Student Orientation and winning the armory cup. After commissioning, he will attend Basic Division Officers Course in San Diego and then start on his first ship, the USS Pinckney (DDG 91). He is excited to learn new skills and lead his future sailors!

Our Midshipmen had a busy weekend!

On Sunday, MIDN from joined our MIDN on a visit to the College Park Aviation Museum, located next to College Park Airport, the oldest operating general aviation airport in the world!

Our MIDN also volunteered to help our SUPPO, MIDN 2/C Suskin, organize and clean our supply room this past Saturday! Shoutout to the volunteers for all the hard work!

Happy Firstie Friday! This week we have MIDN 1/C Cerron.

MIDN Cerron is from Silver Spring, Maryland and majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is a marine option with a ground contract. His hobbies include playing sports, working out, and spending time with family.
MIDN Cerron’s favorite NROTC memories are attending the Tulane MEC and completing OCS. After commissioning, he will attend The Basic School in Quantico, VA in August and is hoping to get the combat engineer MOS after the completion of TBS!

Happy Firstie Friday! This week we will be highlighting MIDN 1/C Beauchamp!

MIDN Beauchamp is from West Chester, PA, studying Electrical Engineering and service selected submarines this past fall. In his free time he likes weightlifting, running, swimming, and spending time with family and friends.
MIDN Beauchamp’s favorite NROTC memory was studying abroad in Morocco as a part of the Project GO scholarship. After commissioning, he plans on attending Dive School in Panama City Beach, FL, before he heads to Charleston, SC, for Nuclear Power School. He is looking forward to an amazing start to his career in the United States Navy!

Happy Firstie Friday! This week we have MIDN 1/C Patil!

MIDN Patil is from Olney, Maryland and majoring in Government and Politics. He is a Marine Option with an Air Contract. MIDN Patil’s hobbies include hiking, skiing, coaching lacrosse, and going to Maryland games.
MIDN Patil’s favorite memories from NROTC are competing in the endurance race at the Colorado MEC and completing OCS.
After commissioning, MIDN Patil will go to The Basic School in Quantico, VA and then on to flight school in Pensacola, FL. He is looking forward to learning how to fly and adopting a dog in the near future!

Firstie Friday! Each week we will be highlighting one of our 1/C MIDN leading up to their commissioning in May! First up we have MIDN 1/C Byrne:

MIDN Byrne is from Ellicott City, MD and majoring in Aerospace Engineering. He service selected Submarines and passed his nuclear interview in January! Some hobbies he does in his free time include skiing, hiking, golfing, running, and scuba diving. 
MIDN Byrne’s favorite part of NROTC is saying hi to everyone else in NROTC when he sees them around campus.
After commissioning, MIDN Byrne plans to travel before attending dive school in Florida and power school in Charleston.

WINTER BREAK Recap! The UMD midshipmen had an exciting and relaxing break, but are ready for a great semester!

MIDN 2/C Niwa and MIDN 2/C Suskin went skiing in Vermont.
MIDN 1/C Smoot traveled to Nicaragua to visit family and see the sights!
MIDN 1/C Carmichael got married in California with MIDN 1/C Patil, Cornett, and Hogenkamp as his groomsmen. Congratulations!
MIDN 3/C Fraiture visited Petra in Jordan, one of the seven wonders of the world!
MIDN 1/C Jeong went snowboarding.
MIDN 1/C Patil and MIDN 1/C Cornett visited Yosemite National Park.

October Recap!

The unit had the opportunity to have guest speaker Rear Adm. Mattingly, commander of NSTC, come in and talk about the importance of getting to know your sailors and marines.

Select marine and navy options attended the Quantico FEX, building on their SULE lab leadership and land navigation skills.

Midshipmen took part in the annual Cornell MEC where they competed against other universities in events such as platoon drill, squad drill, 4x200 meter relay, 5K, and tug of war.

The unit hosted a visit for the Paint Branch High School JROTC unit, where they participated in multiple team building exercises, drill, a campus tour, and learned about the scholarship application process.

Finally, we want to congratulate those Midshipmen who have trained hard and participated in the Marine Corps Marathon and 50K”

CHAMPIONS!

For the past 3 days, our battalion has competed in armory cup which is a series of athletic events between the Army, Air Force, and Navy ROTC units at the University of Maryland. It was a great display of competition, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.
After an all around dominant performance, we were able to reclaim the trophy and the title of armory cup champions!

MIDN Green is from Damascus, MD. He service-selected the Submarine Warfare community and has passed his technical and Admiral interviews. MIDN Green enjoys swimming, hiking, and spending time with friends. His favorite memories in NROTC are visiting Colorado and New Orleans MEC's and going on the summer cruises. Happy Firstie Friday! This week we have MIDN 1/C Dzwlewicz.

MIDN Dzwlewicz is from Port Washington, NY and has service selected submarines. In his free time MIDN Dzwlewicz loves to play golf, hang out with friends, and play settlers of catan. His favorite memories in NROTC consist of the Colorado MEC, summer cruise, and the armory cup.

MIDN Dzwlewicz will be attending power school in Charleston, SC when he commissions. He is looking forward to seeing the world as a Naval Officer.
