🎉 DC day trip for SPAN 301X = a total win! First stop: We kicked things off at the Molina Family Latino Gallery and the Many Voices exhibit at the National Museum of American History — powerful stories, rich culture, and inspiration around every corner. Second stop: Time to fuel up! We hit JALEO, the vibrant Spanish hotspot by chef José Andrés. Tapas were flowing, the vibes were artsy, and yes — flan and chocolate cake were devoured! Third stop: We ended the day at Planet Word, the world’s first voice-activated museum. From interactive galleries to word games, poetry walls, and karaoke! This place made language come alive! A day full of different voices and very good vibes!! ☀️

The Day of the Dead celebrates and honors deceased loved ones with vibrant offerings (ofrendas), and festivities, blending joy and remembrance. Students in SPAN 345 and Dr. Ramirez with the support of Nina Simone Andrews (Coordinator for Diversity, Education and Advocacy) put up an ofrenda in memory of Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist known for her vibrant self-portraits and exploration of identity, pain, and feminism. Stop by the Forrer Learning Commons (FLC) to visit the ofrenda and color a skull in memory of a loved one who passed away to place it on the tree of life. The display will be available until Nov. 6th.
