By example and practice, many faculty challenge students to live a life of critical thinking and discovery within a particular discipline, while actively practicing, defending, and passing on the values that have protected the African American community for centuries.
This is one of the reasons why it’s important to have faculty that understand, appreciate, and can pass on these values to generations of students at HU.

Dr. Wutoh: “Good afternoon. I would be happy to facilitate a process whereby the Faculty Senate can provide updated content (officers, minutes, etc.) to Communications for the site to be updated. Of course, it would be necessary for the Faculty Senate to provide this most current information, and content for communication to faculty. Additionally, I am concerned about the establishment of an external site (in replacement of the University Faculty Senate site),”
HU Faculty: “As I've mentioned to the administration before, the minutes, documents, and other major correspondence of the senate are on the new website - hufaculty.com . Also, the need for an external site is pretty clearly demonstrated on the old site, see attached. Neither Dr. Wright nor Dr. Broome have been chair for about two years. I'd be curious to find out if any of the schools you've listed have names and pictures of senate leadership that are two or more years out of date? In addition, the HU administration has made clear its willingness to act on its belief that academic freedom through electronic communications is a "privilege and not a right". It would make little sense for the HU faculty to invest time and effort to helping update an HU administration controlled site, only to have it unilaterally removed, altered, or not updated. “

It doesn’t seem like a tall order, but Faculty required that the new HU presidential candidates have no history or complaints of misdoing, misleading, misappropriating, misbehaving in academia or other career … Remember the videos we saw of current administrators on YouTube?
Given the Faculty Senate had no representatives elected by the faculty to explicitly participate in the search for our new President, Dr. Vinson’s selection came as a surprise.
Most faculty have questions about his policies. For example,
1. Will he be pro-union at HU?
2. Will he hold himself, provosts, deans, and chairs accountable ?
3. Will he value integrity over loyalty to the HU administration or board?
4. Will he prioritize fixing broken administrative processes? (Paying students and faculty on time, correct research grant accounts and invoices...)
5. Will he uphold shared governance as written in HU policies?
The Faculty at HU have said the answers to these and other questions must be “yes” for the new president because the answers have been “no” for the current (Dr. Frederick's) HU administration.
