The Outreach team of the Center for African Studies at Howard University in collaboration with Princeton University will host the 4 day hybrid Institute for highly motivated educators interested in reading, learning, and teaching about Africa. This year's institute theme is "Healing and Justice: Medieval Stories from Ethiopia, Eritrea and Egypt" with focus on material for educators of Grades 6-12 across disciplines. No fee required.

Our Assistant Director, Phiwokuhle Mnyandu, was interviewed by the The Christian Science Monitor newspaper and provided expert analysis of what the state visit by Kenyan President William Ruto signals for current US-Africa relations.

The application deadline is JUNE 1 for the African Studies Summer Leadership Institute for high school students at Howard. Students will engage in six weeks of experiential learning where they will dialogue with world dignitaries, formulate policy, work in solution driven teams, network, meet faculty/administrators, and learn about the interdisciplinary aspects of African Studies at Howard University ranging from culture, history, and traditions to foreign policy, environment, and gender.

Welcome the 2024 HBCU-Africa Correspondents Corps Cohort! The Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)-Africa Correspondents Corps is an initiative of the Center for African Studies at Howard University. It aims to provide student journalists and political scientists attending HBCUs with professional development exposure and experience beneficial to pursue a career as an international correspondent or political commentator. The HBCU-ACC will also work to broaden and deepen networks between HBCU students and their counterparts in Africa and the global African Diaspora.
