Elliott School then and now!
to what an international affairs classroom looked like in 1967 vs. today.
The George Washington University has educated generations of international leaders and advanced the understanding of important global issues since 1821.
Located in the heart of D.C., our mission is to educate the next generation of international leaders, conduct research that advances understanding of important global issues, and engage the policy community in the United States and around the world. The Elliott School of International Affairs, named in honor of former GW President Lloyd H. Elliott and his wife Evelyn, is dedicated to this mission.
We train our students in the theory and practice of international affairs, offering them in-depth analysis of international economic, political, scientific and cultural issues. The School's curriculum is interdisciplinary; most Elliott School full-time faculty are jointly appointed in GW departments. Our widely respected faculty prepares Elliott School students for global careers in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Elliott School graduates are consistently sought after for challenging global careers. What's more, our Washington, DC location allows us to form strong relationships with public, private, and non-profit organizations that regularly employ Elliott School students and alumni.

Another highlight from the 2024 commencement celebration! 🎉 🎓
Peter Eggeriding, M.A. international affairs, shares what he has to say about the invaluable experience he gained during a capstone class at the Elliott School.
"Our capstone class was phenomenal. We had Professor George Moose and some members of our group traveled to Sierra Leone, and we got to learn and explore a lot. It was very exciting and really amazing to put together a paper and learn a lot about an interesting topic. That was an awesome experience. And this whole weekend has also been phenomenal. It feels so amazing to be out at the Mall and to be celebrating with all of my friends. That’s the one thing that's sticking out right now."
Looking back on an incredible 2024 Commencement celebration. 🎓
Hear what Aliyah Hunt, B.A. in International Affairs, had to say about her time at the Elliott School and her favorite memory:
"My favorite memory is studying abroad. I got to study abroad with 21 kids who were also in the school, and they became like family to me. We had the most fun. We went on the GW Madrid program, and I recommend anyone to go on it because it was the best six months of my life. We got to learn and just really immerse ourselves into culture and grow closer as a community, even though we were away from campus. That's amazing.
Now that it is graduation day, it kind of feels surreal. It's something that I've been looking forward to since freshman year, especially starting online with COVID. I couldn't wait to get in-person. And now it’s bittersweet that it's over. I'm excited for the future, but I will miss GW."
Class of 2024! Congratulations on your graduation! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in the Smith Center tomorrow at noon for the Elliott School celebration.
