Community of Scholars introduces you to the advancing field of global affairs through college-level coursework, including dynamic lectures, engaging discussions and simulations, both online and on campus. By the end of the program, you might find yourself developing a national security strategy or conducting a conflict assessment of an ongoing insurgency. Visits to government agencies and non-prof
it organizations allow students to see how leading policy-makers put ideas into action. You can experience the excitement of Washington at work and see firsthand what others only read about.
Today was the last day for the 2024 Community of Scholars Cohort! We are thrilled to have hosted these amazing young scholars on a Washington, D.C. campus to study international affairs in one of the political centers of the world. It was amazing to hear from some of them, as well as Senior Director Ullman, Director Guerrero, and Head and Second Head RAs Mrittika and Michael. Congratulations everyone!
Today, CoS students traveled to the British Embassy of D.C.! They spoke with three panelists about UK-US relations and what it’s like to work internationally in government.
CoS students walked down the USIP peace trail in the National Mall of D.C. They passed the Korean War memorial and looked at the Washington skyline.
The Community of Scholar students went to visit the United States Institute of Peace headquarters in the National Mall of Washington, D.C! They walked through its unique architecture and heard from Manager of Public Visitor programs, Ellie Quinlan. They asked questions about the role of the USIP in fostering peace and productive dialogue in global conflict.
Today Community of Scholar students went to visit the Headquarters 1 building of the International Monetary Fund! They heard from Public Affairs Officer, Weijie Zhu, and were able to ask questions to Senior Economist, Neil Shenai, from the Strategy, Policy, & Review Department
To mark the first day of the 2024 season, Community of Scholar students had breakfast in the Abramson Founders room in the School of International Service Building! They heard from Program Director Jeanne Guerrero, Dean Shannon Hader, and learned about the history of SIS as an interdisciplinary department committed to waging peace
