What is Mathematics? There are two types of mathematics - theoretical mathematics and applied mathematics. Theoretical mathematics focuses on creating new mathematical theories or finding new ways to relate mathematical principles. Applied mathematics can be used to solve problems in business, industry, government, engineering, and the natural and social sciences. If you've always been interested in the science of numbers and statistics, then this is the major for you. The Mathematics Department offers both a bachelor's of arts degree as well as a bachelor's of science degree in mathematics. The Department also offers a minor in mathematics. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers the following undergraduate programs: B.S. in Mathematics B.A. in Mathematics Minor in Mathematics
