What a spectacular week we had. A few hiccups, but everyone took them in stride. I am so proud of the work, friendships, and good times. I hope your students are sharing all that they did and discovered this week. This is my eighth summer, and I can't remember a more cohesive group. They have made my week, one to be remembered.
When asked to tell me something that made you happy this week, most everyone said discovering new friends and welcoming old ones.
I look forward to five more weeks!

It's not a UB summer without a little fun.
Someone hit a power poll with their car and tha city of Weatherford has lost SOME power to Weatherford College. The City is working very hard to fix the problem, but as of 6:30, they do not have an ETA.
If by bedtime, we still do not have power, we will be relocated for the night to another dorm building that does. In the meantime, we will also get to watch a movie in air conditioning. We where going to play kickball, so most of the students are very excited about missing that one.

30 students from Upward Bound jumped into action, giving back in April at the Weatherford Animal Shelter. Their tasks included walking the dogs, organizing inventory, and lavishing attention on the shelter’s feline residents. Rolling up their sleeves, they also tackled less glamorous but equally important jobs like trash disposal and watering. Samuel Perricone and Jorge Valazquez were thrilled that this little hound found his forever home. While Springtown students Abi Wrinkle and Laci Schlotter helped Logan Boardman from Millsap scrape years of paint off the animal corrals. Afterward, they earned a well-deserved meal at Antonio’s Mexican Restaurant.

UB participated in the first annual Walk for Su***de Awareness. We wore our t-shrts, listened to moving speakers, and gave out stickers. Thanks Grant Mills for making this an awesome experience

When Mineral Wells High School holds its graduation ceremony on Friday, May 26th, two students will be graduating for the second time because they have already earned their degree from Weatherford College. As freshmen, these students enrolled in dual credit courses giving them the opportunity to earn high school credits and college credit hours simultaneously. This week, we are honoring these students who had a traditional high school experience while earning their college degree.

Mariah Hernandez is the daughter of Pedro and Claudia Hernandez. In addition to earning her Associate’s Degree from Weatherford College, Mariah is the Valedictorian for the Class of 2023. After graduation, Mariah will attend The University of Texas at Arlington and plans to major in Nursing.

Evan Kuhn is the son of John and Noelia Kuhn. After earning his Associate’s Degree from Weatherford College and graduating from high school, Evan will attend Texas A&M University and major in Pre-Law.

April Saturday Academy Community Service Day at WC! Our Upward Bound scholars enjoyed enriching the campus and the Veterans Memorial Tranquility Garden designed by Beth Wetsel for her Bachelor's Degree in Leadership Capstone Project. A big thank you goes out to our CBRE colleagues and Beth for all their help with this project.
