Gay & Lesbian Friends of Wabash College

Gay & Lesbian Friends of Wabash College My name is Ben McCormick, WabCol class of 1984. I am gay and I know there must be others out there like me who have some association with Wabash College.

Let's speak up, let ourselves be known, and share stories and impressions.

Welcome to our new follower, whomever you are. Like to introduce yourself? I confess that I really don't know what I'm doing in being the creator/maintainer of this page as, although I received a notification that we had a new follower, our number of followers has not changed, nor do any but the original three followers show up when I click on that link. Maybe someone can help?

I see our page is getting more and more views . . . hey, we cracked double digits! Anyone checking out the page is free to post most anything they'd like. We are an open forum. Introduce yourself, ask a question, share a memory.

I've been negligent in welcoming our first followers: Tim Thobe, David Parry, and Sargent Keyes Cruz. Glad to have you all on board.

Now, please allow me to reveal my webmaster ignorance! The website shows we have eight followers in total but only show the three listed above. I'm 99% sure that Dan Jacoby and Bill Eastridge, for instance, are also followers (thanks guys!) but they don't show in the list of followers. Any of you smarter than I know why that is?

I remember the skip in my heartbeat on my first visit to campus for Honor Scholar's weekend in 1983 upon seeing a handwritten note posted on the bulletin board in the Scarlet Inn. It was announcing the formation of a gay student association and announcing this club's first meeting. I vividly remember thinking, silently to myself, 'wow, how cool, how brave, something for me". the next year, as a frosh, I heard that the now-fellow Little Giant who had posted that notice faced no small amount of ridicule and humiliation for his bravery. The gay life I found while a student at WabCol then was fruitful but absolutely and completely on the down low. I hope it is freer and more open now. What do you think?
