📣Big thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Open Streets ICT – WSU and Shocker Neighborhood, making it another special event!
💃🥁🎤 10,000 of our community memebers came out to enjoy the day with us! We had 70+ vendors, 18 food trucks, entertainment from our neighborhood elementary schools, WSU drumline, WSU cheer and sooo much more!

Open Streets is only a few days away!!! We are happy to announce the involvement of our Shocker neighborhood schools for some of the entertainment we will be having this time around. Get ready to enjoy performances from the 🎤Holy Savior Catholic Church Choir,🥁 Buckner Performing Arts Magnet Elementary School Drumline, and the 💃🏻Urban Preparatory Academy Wichita Dance Team. We can't wait to see these talented students as well as other performances from various groups participating in this year's event!!!

Last Week, our Director, Naquela Pack, got the opportunity to attend the Wichita Collective Impact quarterly meeting and learned more about kindergarten readiness.

In honor of National Public Health Week, the HEALTH Student Association is hosting the "Unequal Plates: Food Insecurity Panel" this Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. in Ahlberg Hall, Room 300.

Panelists will discuss how food insecurity is being addressed in Kansas, with a special focus on the Shocker Learning Community. Light refreshments will be provided, and attendees will receive a FREE T-shirt while supplies last.

Wu made a surprise visit to Spaght Science and Communications Magnet, getting these students excited for their state assessments. We were so glad to be a part of this opportunity and to connect our students from Shocker neighborhood to the university while also encouraging them for college readiness.

Once again, a big thanks to Go Shockers and Storytime Village for their collaboration with our Annual Books and Bears initiative. Last week, with the help of Wichita State University Community Service Board and Wichita Zetas, we got the chance to send off our last patch of books to our Shocker Neighborhood Students Buckner Performing Arts Magnet Elementary School.

Through this partnership, our goal is to encourage students to continue to grow their literacy skills and build connections with the help of a cuddly furry friend.

Wichita State Connect was happy to make the connection with Gordon Parks Academy STEM Leaders in Applied and Media Arts and our WSU PE student group. A big thanks to Wichita State School of Education for providing Gordon Parks with a fun and active day during their field day event, encouraging students to stay active while WSU students got hands on experience working with our local students from Shocker neighborhood. 👏🏽

Last week, our Associate Vice President, Dr. Thompson, and Director, Naquela Pack, had the pleasure of judging Camp Destination Innovation 8th Annual Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge.

High school students from Shocker Neighborhood and beyond came together to present their innovative business proposals, and we were blown away by their creativity and ambition!
