Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre (WCDT) is the resident touring dance company at Wichita State University. The company has been accepted on the Kansas Arts Commission touring roster. WCDT tours regionally and nationally. Dance majors at Wichita State University work with Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre on a regular basis. The strong performers that are developed through the training at WSU ha

ve the opportunity to perform and tour with the company. WCDT and MADT (Mid-America Dance Theatre) are very active in the community, and perform in many venues around Wichita. We are excited to announce that Mina Estrada will join the School of Performing Arts (SPA) next fall as an Assistant Professor of Performing Arts with a focus in Contemporary Dance. Additionally, Mina will serve as the Program Director of Dance. We thank Sabrina Vasquez for her incredible service and leadership over the past two years and honor her desire to focus again on teaching, creating, and supporting a new program leader.

With immense experience as a dance educator, community arts advocate & facilitator, and arts administrator/manager, Mina Estrada will make an immediate and important impact on the dance program and entire SPA. In addition to teaching courses such as contemporary dance, choreography, and improvisation, Mina Estrada will continue to teach the core SPA course, “Professional Practices for the Performing Arts,” and has been asked to create additional courses in arts administration, leadership, and structures to enhance all SPA students’ preparation for arts leadership and portfolio & sustainable careers.

The dance film, She Moved the Prairie by faculty Cheyla Clawson Chandler in collaboration with theatre professor Bret Jones and WSU dance majors, music majors, musical theatre majors, WSU costume shop manager and designer Melissa Penkava Koza, and costume shop student employees, is available to view online as part of the London International Arts Film Festival December 11th.

Create and customize your degree to fit your passion and dreams of being a professional dance artist, educator, critic and choreographer. Wichita State University Dance Program also offers a Dance Minor and Commercial Dance Certificate.
