Whether you're interested in making films or watching them, Filmsoc is the society for you! We watch films, we make films! Watching films:
As well as our two weekly screenings (with complementary coke and popcorn) each week on Tuesday and Thursday in the Student Centre Cinema, we also have Cineclub showing slightly-off-the-beaten-track (think closer to Tarkovsky than Tarantino) films on Mondays i

ncluding lively discussion afterward, and After Dark, our fortnightly horror night for all your ghoulish needs. Making films:
We have plenty of people eager to help you to make any sort of filming ideas into a reality, with a wide range of equipment available for rental. You can email [email protected] with scripts for production or ask for information. Other film-related goodness:
If that doesn't give you enough of a FilmSoc fix for the week we also have weekly Second Breakfast on Thursday mornings as a chance to chat to members and enjoy a whole load of breakfasty goodness (we know you skipped it this morning so you could stay in bed an extra 10 minutes and we understand)

Throughout the year we also have auditions, workshops, social nights, quizzes, trips, a ball that's not to be missed, and our annual festival!

We’re delighted to announce that applications for committee are open now! Our EGM will be held on Wednesday the 27th at 5pm in the Fitzgerald chamber. If you’re interested in applying please email a short speech to [email protected]. Applications close at 8pm on Tuesday the 26th. Applicants will be expected to give a short speech at our EGM as to why they believe they are the best person for the role. Speeches should be restricted to 1 minute in the interest of fairness. Please include ‘application’ in the subject line of your email. If you have any questions you can send us a text or come to us at the freshers stand or come to us at any of our events or screenings! 🎉ITS OFFICALLY FRESHERS WEEK🎉

We’re so delighted to announce all of our events for this incredible week ✨

There will be lots of fun events this week, from screenings of The Mummy, The Princess Bride and the premier of Three Arrows in addition to a coffee morning and a fun table quiz to end the week, there is so much fun to be had!

Whether you’re a movie buff or not, Film Society will always have extremely fun events. It only costs €2 to join, it’s very worth it for all the fun events that we offer.

We’re very excited to see you at the Freshers Tent and we’re so excited to meet everyone :)

We’re so excited to be involved in the collaboration with Arts Soc and a bunch of other societies for a big night out in the Grand Social next Wednesday! 🪩

Definitely get tickets if you haven’t already, it’ll be a great night out for sure and a great opportunity to let your hair down and dance to lots of fun songs from the past few decades 💃

It’s that time of the year again when we welcome everyone back to Film Soc!! Join us for a fabulous line up of movies this week with our ‘Feel Good Childhood’ selections! This week we’ll be screening ‘The School of Rock’ on Tuesday at 5pm in the village auditorium and ‘The Incredibles’ in the cinema at 5pm. We also have some fabulous events such as a coffee morning on Tuesday at 11 and a cult classic ‘Movies Described Badly’ on Wednesday at 4pm. We’re so excited to welcome you all back and look forward to meeting some new faces too!

It’s Helmet Week Ladies and Gentlemen! We’re celebrating some of the most iconic characters in film who have donned a helmet. So it’s safe to say we’re showing some classics as well as a few underdog pictures that deserve a little more praise. Also we’re collaborating with the lovely people at Dramsoc for this week’s coffee morning, join us for a one of a kind collaboration with two of UCD’s most iconic societies. Does anyone else find Ryan Gosling devilishly handsome……no…..just me, well that’s awkward. This week we’re celebrating the icon that is Ryan Gosling. Whether he’s a dark and brooding stunt driver or a docile and friendly lover of lifeless dolls, he smashes each performance. So why not give him his own week here at Filmsoc.

BIG NEWS!!! The Overnight Movie Marathon is here folks. We at Filmsoc couldn’t be happier to be hosting this event for all of our amazing members. We have chosen to show Jurassic Park, this includes Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park 2, Jurassic Park 3 and Jurassic World. The Movie Marathon will be starting at 9pm on the 9th of November in the Atrium in the Old Student Centre. We will be offering bags of popcorn, other snacks and drinks for the Marathon. There are more details to follow but we do know this. Save the Date. This is something you will not want to miss. See you all there.

This week’s theme is macrophotography, so get out your comically large magnifying glass and start taking some pictures. It’s Slasher Week! Time to spread the spooky love, we at Filmsoc are really feeling the creepy festivities and would love for you all to join us. A lot of great events to choose from this week. Tuesdays showing of ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ will also have a post screening discussion. As well as this, we are encouraging everyone to dress up for Thursday’s screening, best costume wins a prize. Do stay after the screenings and say hi, we’re always looking to get to know more of our members (possibly over a drink or two in the Clubhouse). Attention everyone! We are holding auditions next week for a short film we have chosen from the various submissions we received. First and foremost, thank you to Chase Goldberg-Friedman for this cool and abstract script. We encourage you all to come and audition. Just remember: 1. We are looking for an Asian actor to play Vince. 2. We are looking for a black actor to play Jones.

Here we are folks, Kurosawa Week! Kicking week 6 off right by celebrating one of the best Japanese directors of all time. From Samurai Epics to heart warming tales and then back to more Samurai Epics, Kurosawa is without a doubt one of the most influential filmmakers of his time. So we’re honouring his memory by celebrating his movies this week. Be sure to come along and join in on the fun, if you haven’t become a member and would like to then just bring €2. Calling all Photographers! Week 4 marks the beginning of this Year’s Photography Club. This week’s theme is contrast, if your looking to embrace your inner Peter Parker then please send in your photos to [email protected]. This is an exciting area within Filmsoc and anyone can participate. 12pm on Friday in the Meeting Rooms will be the time and place for the first meeting of the year. Here we will view and discuss all the submissions as well as reveal next week’s prompt. So remember to send in your photos before Friday. The best submissions will be featured on our Instagram story and might even be added to an End of Year Exhibition. However, if you don’t produce anything this week, then don’t worry, each week has a new theme for you to explore. Any questions, just DM us. Good Luck📸

It’s 90’s Action Week ladies and gentlemen! Have you ever walked into a room with such cool confidence that people look at you as if you’re some sort of stone cold killing machine that has the only necessary skills to save mankind from extinction? We’re hiring! There are a number of positions available. If you are interested please email us an application with a little about who you are and what you do, don’t forget to include your student number as well. Please note that relevant experience is preferred for Tech Officer and Editing Officer.
IMPORTANT- the deadline for application submissions is the 11th of October at midnight. We will be hosting an EGM in the blue room at 3pm on the 12 of October to elect new committee members. That’s it folks, get your submissions in soon.

Exciting news everyone! You asked and we delivered, we are now making movies, but like we said there are a couple guidelines that we have for applicants who wish to send us a script:
1. Please include your name, student number and student e-mail in your submission.
2. Scripts can range from short films to full features and be any genre that you desire. They should ideally be written in standard screenwriting format and be submitted as a Word Document.
3. The script length should not exceed 120 pages, that is the limit.
We will get back to you within 10 days to tell you if your submission has been successful. That’s it, best of luck everyone.

24 hour challenge? Forget it! Giving people a long amount of time for a thing they’ll probably do at the last minute is what’s in for this semester baby, and we’re gonna go whole hog on it with our 24 Day Film Challenge! 4-5PM tomorrow in meeting rooms 5/6/7 we’re having our launch meeting for it, where our Tech Officer Killian Connyngham, our Productions Officer Alex de Búrca and our Editing Officer Elly Dzhungurova will be there giving a run down on what’s available, what you can get up to and more. As the semester comes to an end it's important to look back. Not on the year so far but on Yugoslavian history but through comedy. Join Cineclub this week as we show 'Underground'. The original version of this comedy/drama was 320 mins long. Just be glad we're not showing that version.

Week 11 has come and it's time for Filmsoc to have a ball, like an actual ball but also a good time.
