When we first visited Coco Solo, I was in awe of Pastor Brown's vision. How could someone have such hope while facing so much adversity?Over the past years, we have learned that a clear vision is the most important thing one needs while working towards a goal. I am writing on behalfof Cambio Creativo, a grassroots platform for education based out of Coco Solo (Colon, Panama). As part of our effort to increase literacy among the youth of Coco Solo, we have sponsored several workshops in photography, music, dance, and video to create tools for learning in more creative and engaging ways. Involving the youth in the process of creation is at the heart of our mission, and the results of these projects are truly inspiring.

The youth of Coco Solo, ages 4-15. We are selling the prints individually or as a series in order to support future programming for Cambio Creativo. If you are interested in purchasing the photographs please get in touch with us, or pass this email along to those who might be interested.

We truly appreciate your collaboration and look forward to hearing from you soon.

As Alex begins to explore her sexuality, her mother invites friends from Buenos Aires to come for a visit at their house on the gorgeous Uruguayan shore, along with their 16-year-old son, Alvaro (Martin Piroyanski). Alex is immediately attracted to the young man, which adds yet another level of complexity to her personal search for identity and forces both families to face their worst fears.

12/02/2012

Cinelatte presents:

Curundú
Directed by Ana Endara Misiov (2007)

Kenneth lives in Curundu, one of Panama City’s more dangerous districts. He is the neighborhood's photographer and documents the everyday life of the area he loves. He is a local celebrity and by his side the viewer is presented with new spaces and special human beings placed in difficult circumstances. Kenneth is the administrator of Curundu’s collective memory, in a place from where people constantly disappear, shot when gangs fight each other or arrested by the violent police in their raids. A powerful documentary about a people left to themselves, seen through the eyes of someone who really has a personal experience of Panama’s systemic violence.

Food will be served!! Please come and join us to see the great documentary!

COCALERO

CinePizza is becoming DocuPizza this week with COCALERO!

Nov. 17, Link Auditorium, 8pm

Dir: Alejandro Landes

Born out of the U.S. war on drugs, an Aymara Indian named Evo Morales - backed by a troop of coca leaf farners - travels through the Andes and Amazon in jeans and sneakers, leading a historic bid to become Bolivia's first indigenous president. The filmmakers, granted astonishing up close and personal access to Evo, capture the intimate moments of this controversial figure and his triumphant rise to power. A story of geopolitics, people's movements, indigenous culture, and one man's impressive determination, Cocalero is a "luminous portrait of working people in a rare triumph against U.S. imperialism.

This week's CinePizza will feature La Cienaga, Directed by Lucrecia Martel

Chekhov in contemporary Argentina. Mecha and Gregorio are at their rundown country place near La Ciénaga with their teen children. It's hot. The adults drink constantly; Mecha cuts herself, engendering a trip to the hospital and a visit from her son José. A cousin, Tali, brings her children. The kids are on their own, sunbathing by the filthy pool, dancing in town, running in the hills with shotguns, driving cars without licenses. One of the teen girls loves Isabel, a family servant constantly accused of stealing. Mother and son, son and sisters, teen and Isabel are in each other's beds and bathrooms with a creepy intimacy. With no adults paying attention, who's at risk?
