THINKING WITH HANDS, HOLLOWING OUT MODELS

Topophilia is a poetic and spiritual concept from which the perception of the space is mediated between the sensitive perception that is experienced through it, and the strong personal imaginative load through which the space acquires its value and its proper meaning. This space condition differentiate it from the measurable space of the physics or the geometry, adopting the category of "lived space".

THINKING WITH THE PENCIL

It is necessary to establish a similarity between Japanese culture and the pre-Hispanic Andean world when it comes to the links between landscapes and traditional architectures. In the specific case of public baths, both cultures established a relationship between water, the spiritual scope and the landscape. INTRODUCTION
Here is the working team and the first impressions of the competition theme after weeks of talks and brainstorming

The worlds of the specifically architectural and the landscape will be seen as fused, not only visually but also in the vital use of the restrooms. The inner and outer limits will be diffused, ambiguous.
The ground will be the first tectonic material, understanding the excavation as the first of the constructions. The excavation will be planned and performed as if it were A Zen garden to be done in concrete. This circumstance implies a strategy that will be sustainable from the very beginning. The earth itself is a recipient matrix bowl, and there is in this action a nod to Japanese meticulousness in our actions. Do not forget that sustainability is, above all, cultural.
Applicability and relevance go in two ways. It has to do with the importance of the traditional Japanese Zen gardens. Furthermore, it is related to the American concept of folding and unfolding. There is in this double pertinence a gesture of syncretism to be strengthened.
Conceiving the TEMPLE OF THE WATERS like middle space between two worlds. The world of the earth: Concrete (grounded to the earth) Root and the world of the sky: Imagination (fly light in the air) Ethereal.
