The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has once again warned shipowners and manning agencies to divert voyages away from the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, stressing that Filipino seafarers must not be deployed on vessels passing through these dangerous waters.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac issued the renewed call during a virtual press briefing on Tuesday, following consecutive attacks by Houthi rebels on MV Magic Seas and MV Eternity C.

“The Magic Seas and Eternity C, prohibited na—absolute na ang prohibition sa principal to board a Filipino seafarer sa barko nilang dadaan ng Red Sea at Gulf of Aden,” Cacdac said, calling on shipping companies to stop involving Filipinos in these high-risk routes. “The risk has returned as recurrent.”

On Sunday, 17 Filipino crew members aboard Magic Seas were rescued after the vessel was attacked with missiles, grenades, and sea drones near Yemen. Just a day later, Eternity C—with 21 Filipinos and one Russian onboard—was also targeted. Two crew members were reportedly injured, and two remain missing. The DMW is still verifying whether Filipinos were among the affected.

Isaiah 40:31 is a reminder that true strength does not come from ourselves alone, but from patiently trusting in God.

When life feels heavy and we are exhausted by trials, this verse promises that waiting on the Lord renews our spirit — giving us the courage to soar above challenges like eagles, to run life’s race without growing weary, and to keep moving forward in faith even when the path is hard.

It’s a call to hope, perseverance, and unwavering trust in God’s sustaining power.
