Faculty of Languages and Literature
Brief History
This faculty was officially established in 1984 under the administration of Nangarhar University. Thus, the faculty was nominated by the Faculty of Pashtu Language and Literature. Later on, Russian Department was also established, but after a short period of time, due to the lack-ness of students’ interest to this department, the department stoppe
d working. After that, other departments were established such as English Department, Arabic Department in 1992. The Arabic Department was established in 1993. It is also worth mentioning that under the supervision of Pashtu Department, the same faculty started it’s working in night ship, after two years active working in 2004, the faculty was considered to work under the supervision of Education faculty. From 1992, we have met lots of changes in the curriculum of Pashtu Department such as the addition of English and Islamic subjects instead of Russian Language, Academic sociology and Political economics in addition to Pashtu and English Departments, Dari Department was established in 2003, Hindi Department was established in 2006(1385), Germany Department was established in 2014, and Master program in Pashtu Language launched in 2014. When other departments such as Arabic, English, Dari and Hindi department were added to this faculty the faculty named was changed from Faculty of Pashtu and Literature to the Faculty of Languages and Literature. This faculty provided many graduated students in order to developed both qualitative and quantitative education inside Afghanistan. Now 2015 this faculty has total 1494 students studying in all six departments 1403 are male and 91 female students. There are 54 permanent professional lecturers.
