This event is entirely funded and organised by an amazing group of students each year, The Visual Arts Graduate events do not traditionally have or attract industry sponsors like Law, Business, Science, Architecture or Design. This event is not a fixed annual event. It is wholly dependent on the determined fundraising efforts and grant writing skills of the student administered graduation committee. Staff, Alumni, Practising Artists, Curators, Industry Professionals, Arts Peak Body Organisations such as the invaluable and ever supportive Helpmann Academy, Guildhouse, Design Institute of Australia, GAG, NAVA, Constance Gordon-Johnson Scholarship, SASA Gallery and the School of AAD, USASA, UniSA Student Experience and Experience Plus. FSASA, Hyde Park Press, Finsbury, UniSA MatchStudio, Fassina, Salena Estate wines, Bj Ball Papers, DW Doggett, Five Star Press and the many wonderful Adelaide based & interstate galleries and Aris all of whom provide advice and guidance, endorsement, in kind support and where available financial support. This endorsement is only given in circumstances where supporters are sure this event will showcase to the highest degree, the attributes of the University of South Australia Visual Arts Graduates and their advocates, to the broadest audience industry wide and the public. We welcome any assistance financial or otherwise from students or the wider public that will help the students in running this enormous Gala event, showcasing exceptional talent, imagination, creativity, curiosity pushing limits of concept and materiality.

Are you a creative with aspirations of applying your craft to professional review and critique? ๐Ÿ’ญ

Helpmann Academy are now taking applications for their InReview Mentorship program, an opportunity that connects emerging creatives to experienced professionals.

Past recipient and UniSA graduate Michelle Wakim had this to say about the program: "I've learned so much from my mentors, they've been so generous with their feedback and their time... Without having the chance to work so closely with such experienced people in the industry, it would have taken me so much longer to develop and work out where that industry standard is."

Applications close Monday November 8 @ 9am ๐ŸŒŸ

Space and Improvisation by UniSA graduate Seiichi Kobayashi is open now at FELTspace ๐ŸŒ

"Space and Improvisation investigates the process of image making from programming codes and the roles of different types of medium in our changing relationship to images. The images at this show are visualised with computer and presented on canvas through silkscreen. Computer allowed me to create an image that has complex patterns with controlled randomness without taking images from real objects or using found images. In addition to hard-edge accurate lines generated by computer, the works contains spontaneous, erratic marks caused by the hand-working process of silkscreen."

Check it out until 19 June at 12 Compton Street Adelaide ๐Ÿ‘ Seiichi's work also features in East Wind at Nexus Arts (curated by Jonathan Kim and showing until 2 July).

Introducing Hannah Coleman, a third year contemporary art student at University of South Australia!

palimpsest (n.) - something reused or altered but still bearing visible traces of its earlier form.

Hannah uses glaze as paint, focusing on the connection between skin and ceramic surface. Her practice centres around the idea of skin as a palimpsest. Hannah's current body of work in development consists of portrait studies of her father, exploring how his skin tells a story.

Congratulations to University of South Australia lecturer in Contemporary Art, Jaye Early, on being shortlisted for the Archibald Prize - opening this Friday at the Art Gallery of New South Wales!

"โ€˜The decision to paint Masato was, initially, quite instinctive; I just knew he would make a great subject. Masato is a kind person with a tender disposition. I enjoy his intelligent sense of the absurd, along with his playful, distinctive sarcasm. After he agreed to sit for me, I knew I wanted to highlight these qualities."

The Archibald Prize is Australia's most prestigious portrait prize and is awarded annually. 2021 marks 100 years of the Archibald Prize.

Masato Takasaka is an artist and academic living in Melbourne. โ€˜We worked together when I used to teach in the Critical and Theoretical Studies Department at the Victorian College of the Arts,โ€™ says Jaye Early.
