Competitions

When entering an ECU competition, via social media or via ECU’s website we encourage you to consider the following:

• Take the time to visit ECU’s website or the ECU social media page running the competition as ECU will often have background content to our competitions for public viewing.
• Be realistic about the prize being offered, scammers often promise valuable prizes as bait.
• ECU will only ever ask for minimal contact information, such as an email address or phone number, we will never ask for your bank details or money when you enter an ECU competition.
• ECU will always clearly set out the competition’s terms and conditions and avoid vague rules that may deceive ECU competition participants. T&C's available at https://www.ecu.edu.au/competitions/overview

💡 STUDENT SPOTLIGHT 💡

👋 Meet Navdeep, Registered Nurse from the Child and Adolescent Health Service, now undertaking a PhD at ECU.

Last year, Navdeep participated in the School of Nursing and Midwifery - Edith Cowan University’s inaugural clinician internship, which provided part-time salaries to nurses and midwives as they collaborated on research projects addressing real healthcare priorities.

Navdeep explored barriers impacting culturally and linguistically diverse families’ engagement with child health checks in metropolitan Perth. She said the internship, including access to online SOAR Centre (Support – Opportunities – Advice – Resources) resources and workshop opportunities, was invaluable in helping her build connections and gain a deeper understanding of PhD options 👏✨

Did you know some of the names across WAAPA’s new home at ECU City come from deeply personal stories? 💛✨

From growing up surrounded by the arts, to gifting a world-class piano, to dedicating a lifetime to supporting students - every named space carries a story of generosity and belief in the future of the arts.

🎹 McCusker Recital Hall
A flagship stage for classical performance, now home to hundreds of voices and a world-class piano gifted by the McCusker family. Their nearly two-decade support of WAAPA continues to shape what’s possible for the next generation of performers.

🎭 Paula Huston Auditorium
Paula Huston grew up in Mount Lawley with a deep love for the arts and has left a legacy that will support students for years to come. Her gift ensures future artists can step from Perth onto global stages.

✨ Derksen Studio
Built on a belief in the “unsung heroes” of performance, this studio honours Lesley Joy Derksen’s lifelong connection to WAAPA and her passion for backstage and production work. Her legacy now supports students across sound, Aboriginal performance and children’s literature.

More spaces across ECU City are yet to be named, and with them, more stories still to be told ❤️

🏎️ 💨 Edith Cowan University Racing is a team of our students who design, manufacture, build and even drive motorsport cars! The team is gearing up to compete at Formula Student 2026 in the UK in July.

Last year they competed in Formula SAE Australasia in car 'Gwen' (pictured), and came first overall in the Internal Combustion class. Drawing on multiple seasons of competition experience, Gwen was engineered for performance and reliability. Every detail reflects countless hours of dedication, collaboration and innovation.

Brianne's story is proof that embracing new opportunities can lead to incredible outcomes ❤️

When Master of Nursing student, Brianne McIntyre joined ECU’s Summer Research Internship Program, she wanted to challenge herself and build new skills, but what happened next exceeded her expectations.

During the eight-week internship, Brianne gained hands-on clinical research experience and, under the mentorship of Professor Deb Massey, became first author of a paper published in Women and Birth. She later had research presented at the Australian College of Midwives National Conference and co-authored a second paper published in Nurse Education Today 📚

Now in 2026, Brianne has taken the next step in her journey, starting her PhD at ECU.

Congratulations Brianne! We can't wait to see what your future holds 👏✨

⛲ 🦆 Did you know the lake is on our Joondalup Campus was constructed in 1990?

🚜 👷‍♀️ A giant waterproof liner was covered with sand to create the shape. Today, the lake is a focal point of the campus, and a thriving wetland habitat for native flora and fauna.
