Starting internship next year? Come along to our Pre-Intern Networking Night and meet your future colleagues before you step onto the wards!

Hosted by SSSM, in collaboration with ASSA, Deakin and Monash student surgical committees, this event is open to incoming interns across Austin Health, St Vincent’s, RMH, Monash Health and The Alfred.

The evening will begin with information from representatives from RACS, Departments of Surgery and intern support teams, covering the support and resources available at each health service. The rest of the night will be dedicated to networking, giving you the chance to meet other incoming interns in a relaxed setting.

SSSM’s annual Surgical Careers Night is back for 2026! 🩺
As one of SSSM’s flagship events of the year, Surgical Careers Night brings together medical students and surgeons from across a wide range of specialties for an evening of career insights, training pathways, specialty-specific advice and networking.

Across the night, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from clinicians working in Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Vascular Surgery, General Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Plastic Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Whether you already have a surgical specialty in mind or are just starting to explore your options, this is a rare opportunity to hear directly from surgeons about their careers and experiences in the field.

Poster Competition Q&A Session! Join SSSM and the Department of Surgery for our upcoming Q&A session for this year’s poster competition, themed Evolving Hands: Robotics in Surgery.

We’re excited to be joined by Professor Justin Yeung and Associate Professor Helen Mohan. Professor Yeung is a consultant colorectal surgeon at Western Health and Head of the Department of Surgery, Western Precinct, at the University of Melbourne. Associate Professor Mohan is a colorectal and robotic surgeon with expertise in colorectal cancer, pelvic surgery and robotic surgical education. This session will be an opportunity to hear from experts in the field, learn more about robotics in surgery, and ask questions about this year’s poster competition.
