End-of-Semester Party: Detective Story πŸ”πŸ•΄οΈ

πŸ“† Date: Thursday 28th May (Week 12)
πŸ•” Time: 5:00 PM (EGM @ 5:20 PM)
πŸ“ Location: LTB 3.31
πŸ• Catering included!
🎟️ Tickets: Link in bio or just show up!

Dust off your detective instincts, follow the trail of clues, and join us for a warm end-of-semester gathering. Whether you want to uncover career possibilities, crack the trivia case, or simply relax with friends after a busy semester, this evening is your chance to close the academic year in style.

πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ The Case File:

Career Clues: A welcoming session with industry leaders sharing insights into linguistics-related careers, pathways, and possibilities beyond the classroom πŸ’‘

The Trivia Files: Detective-themed trivia with playful rounds for everyone, from first-year students to seasoned linguists ⁉️

The Catered Case: Generous food by our caterer to keep everyone fuelled while the investigation unfolds πŸ˜‹

The Social Alibi: A warm, relaxed space to mingle, unwind, and enjoy the company

Expect clues, conversation, prizes, food, and just enough mystery to keep everyone suspiciously entertained.

⚠️ P.S. You will also be gently summoned to a surreptitious (not actually) and very short EGM, tucked somewhere between deciphering a puzzle and a piece of cheesecake.

EGM @ 5:20pm during EoS Party :)

Reminder to appoint a proxy if you're unable to attend :)

Communication is about way more than just the words we pick. πŸΊπŸ’¬

It is often thought as just the words we speak, but we actually convey meaning through the things we carry, the symbols we share, and the places we live in.

We have a panel of Monash scholars coming in to discuss how material culture and social semiotics shape our world. They will be exploring how we use "things" to signal identity and how pragmatics, the study of context helps us understand each other across different communities.

Whether you are into linguistics or just curious about why we relate to objects the way we do, come join the conversation. Link to the event in bio
