Welcome Dinner Project - Tasmania The Welcome Dinner Project brings recent migrants and established Australians together to share food Anyone can become involved in the Welcome Dinner Project!

The Welcome Dinner Project enables recently arrived people and established Tasmanians to meet over a shared meal. These pot-luck style dinners create a platform for meaningful connection, sparking friendships between people of diverse cultures and encouraging local collaborative endeavours. The Welcome Dinner Project, a joiningthedots initiative established in Sydney in 2012, has expanded to other

states and is now coming to Tasmania through a partnership between joiningthedots, the University of Tasmania, Migrant Resource Centre Northern Tasmania and others, with help from participants in the 2014 Tasmanian Leaders Program. We need volunteers to fill several different roles:

Facilitators: to organise dinners; a five-hour training session is offered for this role

Hosts: to provide or create a welcome environment

Dinner guests: who bring a plate of food and enthusiasm to make new connections. Email [email protected] for more information on getting involved and look at our upcoming events for a dinner, information session or facilitator training near you!

Yesterday, our final WDP Tas welcome lunch was held and, as usual, it was a lovely meal shared between established and new Australians, forming connections and new friendships.

Although this marks the conclusion of the formal auspices of the Welcome Dinner Project, the model and resources of the WDP are now part of the creative commons.

It’s been a long time between dinners and you may have heard the Welcome Dinner Project has wrapped up in its formal state as an organisation. All resources are now freely available to other community based orgs to host their own WDP style dinner.

So to say thanks to our Tassie community we’re having one final dinner in Launceston on Saturday 14th February 12-2pm. Comment below if you’d like to receive details. 🥘🌮🍲🍚❤️🙏
