And that's a wrap for our 2021 LHMI Conference! Thank you to today's attendees for joining us and to speakers Professor Jane den Hollander AO, Professor Bruce Wilson, Mary Faraone and Dr Siew Fang Law for sharing your insights on how tertiary education providers can look to engage with industry and the wider community to shape a world that addresses some of society's toughest challenges.

Drawing from a series of papers written with colleagues (Elizabeth Bare, Janet Beard) during the height of the pandemic, and with the lived experience of leading student retention at a regional university during Victoria’s lockdowns, Teresa Tjia will pose challenges and opportunities for an enriched student experience post-COVID on day 1 of the LHMI Conference.

The third LH Martin Institute Fellow Voices paper within the series questions whether there are other ways of achieving the desired outcomes within university professional services. The analysis also looks at whether there are lessons which can inform responses to COVID-19 and Government policy changes to focus on both strategic and sustainable outcomes, and maintain an engaged workforce throughout and on the other side. Drawing from a series of papers written with colleagues (Elizabeth Bare, Janet Beard, Ian Marshman) during the height of the pandemic, and with the lived experience of leading student retention at a regional university during Victoria’s lockdowns, Teresa Tjia will pose challenges and opportunities for an enriched student experience post-COVID on day 1 of the LHMI Conference.

The second most recent LH Martin Institute Fellow Voices paper within the series reveals numerous factors that appear to be influencing the response of individual universities to drive workforce changes. These include legacy funding issues now made more severe as a result of the pandemic, university leadership appetite for major organisational change, and recent or current transitions in university leadership. For the last four years, our day 3 panellist, Professor Bruce Wilson, has contributed as a Co-Chief Investigator to the Latrobe Valley Authority’s implementation of Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) in Gippsland. In our post down below, he shares his insights regarding industry, community and education linkages.
