Lessons from the Seasons of Life
As a child, Evelyn loved watching the seasons change.
Spring brought new flowers and fresh beginnings.
Summer filled the days with adventure, energy, and possibility.
Autumn painted the trees in brilliant colours before gently letting the leaves fall.
Winter invited stillness, reflection, and rest.
For many years, she thought the seasons belonged only to nature.
Then one day, as she reflected on her own life journey, she realised something profound:
We move through seasons too.
There are springs in our lives when new opportunities emerge and we feel excited about what lies ahead.
There are summers when life feels full, abundant, and vibrant.
There are autumns when we begin letting go of old identities, relationships, dreams, or expectations that no longer serve us.
And there are winters when life asks us to slow down, reflect, heal, and gather wisdom before the next chapter begins.
Yet many of us resist certain seasons.
We celebrate growth but resist rest.
We welcome beginnings but fear endings.
We embrace abundance but struggle with letting go.
Nature, however, teaches a different lesson.
No season is wrong.
No season lasts forever.
Each one serves a purpose.
The bare branches of winter are not failures. They are preparing for renewal.
The falling leaves of autumn are not losses without meaning. They are making room for what comes next.
Life follows a similar rhythm.
Every stage offers its own gifts, lessons, and opportunities for growth.
As we age, wisdom often comes from recognising that we do not need to rush through one season to arrive at another. We can learn to honour where we are, trusting that each chapter is contributing to the person we are becoming.
Perhaps the secret is not wishing for a different season.
Perhaps it is learning to find beauty within the one we are living.
Reflection
What season of life do you feel you are currently in, and what lesson might it be inviting you to learn?
