It has 14 full-time teaching staff, many with international qualifications, supported by a number of research staff, part-time teaching staff, administrative and technical staff. There are currently approximately 440 students including 113 postgraduate students, 37 of whom are completing research degrees. The Department of Spatial Sciences is an acknowledged leader in Australia for university-leve
l teaching and research in surveying, geographic information science (GIScience), mapping, mine and engineering surveying, and related areas. Our students enjoy state-of-the-art facilities through the use of the recently opened Spatial Science Studios as well as flexibility throughout their studies via the availability of online and distance units, which underpin many of the teaching programs. In research, the Department is an acknowledged leader for research of international significance in the areas of geodesy, laser scanning and digital imaging, geographic information science (GIScience) and remote sensing and has a number of internationally experienced staff with a range of expertise in these and other areas. Most significantly, spatial sciences is a rapidly growing industry with vast long-term potential. Our graduates are not only in enormous demand but have the capacity for high earnings, the added advantage of very diverse job opportunities, and most importantly, the satisfaction of participating in exciting projects
