Save the Children UWA shares the vision of Save the Children Australia, that being a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. This means ensuring children no longer die from preventable diseases, that they have a childhood – even in emergencies, that they have the opportunity to learn through access to education and that they have - and u
nderstand - their rights as a child. With millions of children abused, exploited, trafficked or recruited as soldiers each year, and millions more working in harmful conditions, we fight for legal safeguards to address and prevent these child protection concerns.
2012 is our first year as a Guild affiliated Group and we hope to bring an awareness of these issues to the UWA campus and encourage student involvement in campaigns and events. Most notable of these events, is the annual UWA Save the Children Book Sale, (which raised over $250 000 for SCA last year!) for which we'll need student volunteers to help set up and assist the university branch, to make this another successful year!
