On the 3rd of September 2022, JCUPNGSA hosted our first ever Kumul Cup Games 🏆

The Kumul cup games was a sporting initiative coined firstly, to foster relations between PNG JCU student communities with our wider PNG FNQ community, and secondly to raise funds that would be donated to a charity of our choice.

On the day, we had over 120 people show up to what we thought would be a small event. People came from across North Queensland to support the cause and take part in our Kumul Cup Games and overall, it was a successful day!

Congratulations to our first ever Kumul Cup winners; the Wantoks Red Team who won both Volleyball and Touch Rugby competitions.🤩🥳 We are hoping that these games were the first of many so that you are able to defend your title next year!

Now that the event has passed, we are pleased to advise that we were able to make a one-off donation of PGK1000 to City Mission - Port Moresby- A non-for profit organisation serving communities in Port Moresby, Lae and Madang provinces.

Thank you to all the teams that participated, the friends and family who came to show their support and of course the amazing volunteers who donated their time to help us on the day. The day would not have been successful without your help and our donation we believe, will go a long way in serving communities back home.

In a new documentary, Sylvia John, from Popondetta, Papua New Guinea, risks much to tell her true story. Despite being enslaved, deprived of food and schooling as a child; Sylvia finds a way to overcome the stigma of HIV and care for her children. Rising above the rejection and abuse she suffers, she finds strength to voice her story of hope.

Sylvia’s story highlights the epidemic of AIDS and HIV in Papua New Guinea and introduces the charitable efforts of iCare4U which provides support programs, housing and counseling to mothers facing the stigma and challenges of HIV in PNG.

The film features music and vocal talent from local artists, Jamie-Lee and Jagarizzar, who will be performing on the night.

2022 JCUPNGSA Annual General Meeting notice.

Join the team tonight at our AGM, as we review the association’s year, run through and make changes to our constitution & nominate candidates for our upcoming JCUPNGSA elections.

Members are encouraged to attend as you have rights to:
• Voice your concerns &/or queries with regards to the association
• Make changes to the constitution
• Nominate and contest in the JCUPNGSA elections** and;
• Vote incoming executive members

Date: Friday, 7th October
Time: 6.30-8pm
Venue: The Science Place (Building 142-111)
