What a fantastic weekend we had at the Music by the Lakes Festival. 🎶

Across 3 days, we hosted 12 concerts and welcomed more than 1,000 attendees to enjoy the music. A huge thank you to everyone involved, including the Indooroopilly State High School Wind Orchestra.

🎶 Celebrating UQ talent at the 2026 Queensland Music Awards!
We’re thrilled to share that UQ composer and alum Abigail Lui has been announced as the winner of the Contemporary Classical award at this year’s Queensland Music Awards.

Her winning piece 'Memory in the Distant Hills' is a deeply evocative work commissioned through Camerata’s Emerging Composer in Residence Program.

A huge congratulations to Abigail on her outstanding achievement. Queensland’s music scene is thriving, and we’re proud to see UQ minds contributing to its future.

Congratulations to Holly Zhang (BMus, Percussion) and Ryan Taylor (MTeach, Saxophone) on successful auditions for the World Youth Wind Orchestra, part of the World Association for Symphony Bands & Ensembles (WASBE) World Conference to be held in Rio de Janeiro later this year.

A huge shout-out as well to Sarcha Webb (BMus, Flute), who earned a reserve placement - an excellent achievement!

All three students are active in multiple UQ School of Music ensembles, including UQ Wind Symphony, and we’re incredibly proud to see them represent UQ on the world stage!

UQ Affiliate Ensemble Oceans Art Orchestra will be undertaking their inaugural performance in BrisAsia Stories. The group is an intercultural ensemble featuring artists from across the globe who call Brisbane home. Get your tickets for this wonderful afternoon of music.
