ফিজিওরা আবার কবে থেকে ডাক্তার হলো?
এটা ১৯৭২ সালের গ্যাজেট। ডা. আবুল হোসেন স্যার তখন চট্টগ্রাম মেডিকেল কলেজের সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ছিলেন।
এই রেকর্ড ধরলে বুঝা যায় অন্তত স্বাধীনতার আগ থেকেই ফিজিওরা ডাক্তার ছিলো।

তখন আবুল হোসেন স্যার যদি সহযোগী অধ্যাপক থাকেন, পরে অধ্যাপক হয়েছেন, তাহলে এখন সেই পোস্ট কই? উত্তর হচ্ছে বেশীরভাগ ফিজিও পোস্টে ফিজিক্যাল মেডিসিন বসে আছে অথবা ঐ পোস্ট বিলুপ্ত করে দেওয়া হয়েছে।

নিটোরে পড়ে ভবিষ্যৎ কি বা কি কি সুযোগ আছে?

- সংক্ষেপে একটা আইডিয়া দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করতেছি।

১) ক্লাস এর ব্যাপারে -
নিয়মিত ক্লাস হয়। এটেন্ডেন্স প্রফের ভাইভার ক্ষেত্রে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখে। (কম থাকলে ফেইল ও দেয়)
আইটেম - কার্ড ক্লেয়ার করা লাগে বেশ কিছু সাবজেক্ট এ।
নিটোরে আমাদের বেশিরভাগ ক্লাস হয়।
আমাদের সাব্জেক্ট এর ক্লাসগুলো নিটোর থেকে পাস করা সিনিয়র স্যাররা নেয়। তবে স্থায়ী শিক্ষকের তুলনায় গেস্ট লেকচার বেশি৷ এমবিবিএস রিলেটেড সাবজেক্টগুলা নিটোরে কর্মরত এম. ফিল. করা লেকচার / অধ্যাপকরা নেয় ।
কিছু ক্লাস ( এনাটমি, ফিজিওলজি, কমিনিউটি মেডিসিন, ফার্মাকোলজি) পার্শবর্তী শহীদ সোহরাওয়ার্দী মেডিকেল কলেজ ( ShSMC) এ গিয়ে করে আসা লাগে।

২) এপ্রোন পরতে হয় মাস্ট। বোনস কিনা লাগে। ২য় বর্ষ থেকে ক্লিনিক্যাল প্লেসমেন্ট থাকে৷ তখন স্টেথোস্কোপ লাগবে।

৩) খরচ ভর্তির সময় ২১-২৫ হাজার নেওয়া হবে। এরপর কোনো একাডেমিক খরচ নাই ( মাসিক কোনো বেতন দেওয়া লাগে না) ৪ টা প্রফের আগে প্রফ ফি হিসেবে ১২-১৫ হাজার টাকা দেওয়া লাগে যেটা ঢাবিতে চলে যায়।

৪) হোস্টেল নাই। বাইরে থাকা লাগবে৷ সিনিয়ররা অনেকেই আলাদা মেস নিয়ে থাকে৷ কথা বলে একসাথে থাকা যাবে৷ বাইরে মেয়েদের বেশিরভাগ একটা হোস্টেলে থাকে সেখানে উঠা যাবে।

৫) খেলাধুলার সুযোগ পাবা৷ NITOR Premier League হয় প্রতি বছর৷ সাথে ক্যারম বোর্ড সহ খেলার সামগ্রী আছে নিটোরে ক্লাসের ফাকে খেলতে পারবা৷ নিজস্ব মাঠ নেই ( কোনো হসপিটালেই থাকে না)। কালচারাল ক্লাব আছে।

৬) ইন্টার্ন বাধ্যতামূলক ১ বছর৷ ভাতা চালু হয়েছে।

৭) নিজস্ব লাইব্রেরি রয়েছে।

৮) সরকারি সার্কুলার খুবই কম, বছরে ২/৩ টা।
বিভিন্ন ভার্সিটি BUET, JU,CU সার্কুলার দিয়ে থাকে নবম গ্রেডে।
সেনাবাহিনীর :প্রয়াস' সহ বিভিন্ন বাহিনীর ক্লিনিকাল ফিজিওথেরাপিস্ট হিসেবে সরকারী চাকুরী রয়েছে।
জাতীয় দলসহ প্রতিটি ফুটবল,ক্রিকেট,হকি টিমে / ক্লাবে ফিজিওথেরাপিস্ট নিয়োগ দেয়া হয়।

তবে বেসরকারিভাবে অনেক সুযোগ রয়েছে।
২৫-৩৫ হাজার বেতনে ঢুকতে পারবা পাশ করেই বিভিন্ন NGO, সিনিয়র ভাইদের চেম্বার সহ ইবনে সিনা, পপুলারসহ বেসরকারি ক্লিনিকে। আশা ব্রাক সহ অনেক এনজিও তে পাশ করেই ৪০ হাজার এর উপরে ঢুকতে পারবা।
অভিজ্ঞতার সাথে বেতন ৪০-৬০ হাজার হয়ে থাকে। অনেক NGO ৬০-৮০ হাজার পর্যন্ত দিয়ে থাকে। তবে মাসে লাখ লাখ কামানোর এক্সপেকটেশন না রাখায় ভালো। তবে বেকার থাকবা না, জব অপোর্চনিটি অনেক। কেউ বেকার থাকেনা।
চেম্বার দিতে পারবা। স্বাধীন ভাবে প্রাক্টিস করতে পারবা।

৯) ফিজিওথেরাপি রিলেটেড প্রেসক্রিপশন করতে পারবা, টেস্ট দিতে পারবা, পেশেন্ট এসেস্টমেন্ট করে ট্রিটমেন্ট মেনেজমেন্ট করতে পারবা।

১০) আমাদের কাউন্সিল বাস্তবায়ন না থাকায় রেজিষ্ট্রেশন নাম্বার দেওয়া হয় না। তবে শীঘ্রই বাস্তবায়ন হয়ে যাবে।
বিপিএ থেকে প্রক্টিস এর জন্য রেজিষ্ট্রেশন নম্বর দেওয়া হয় আপাতত।

১১) Post Graduation এবং বাইরে সুযোগ সম্পর্কে-

PG এর জন্য দেশে MPT করা যায়-
JUST
BHPI/ CRP
JUST এর সাবজেক্ট গুলা-
Musculoskeletal medicine
Neurology
Sports Medicine
Paediatric
Gynecology

এই বিষয়গুলোতে PG করতে পারবেন।

দেশের বাইরে PG করতে যাওয়া সম্পর্কে UK তে কর্মরত এক সিনিয়র ভাইয়ের কথা তুলে ধরলাম-

"Juniors, those of you who have completed final year and currently doing internship or those who have passed earlier and are currently practising PT and have experience of around 2 years, don't just stop there, raise your ambition and take preparation for MPT courses abroad. In Australia, Canda and specially in UK, physios are in great demand, that I can tell from my experience as I am living here.

Preparations: As a Nitorian I believe all the Nitorians have the potential and caliber to complete their post graduation abroad. You only need 3 things-
A. 60% marks in Bachelors ( below 60% can apply as well)
B. 7 band score in IELTS
C. Relevant work experience

All the universities whether in Australia or UK ( Canada has different system) not only accept University of Dhaka's certificate but also consider it as a prestigious one. So, all you have to do is to keep you percentage more than 60%, if not atleast 60%. Those who do not have that score, dont worry there are other good universities who will offer you place in their MPT programme.

Next comes IELTS. From the very beginning take preparation for this test. It is necessary for 2 aspects: for being eligible to apply for MPT course and for getting scholarship. MPT is not like other course for example MPH where 6.5 is enough to get admission. As you have to treat patients thus it is important that you have very good listening and speaking skills. Most universities ask 7 in all band of IELTS test. And believe me, if you try and study hard, u will get that score.

Finally, work experience. For government scholarships it is necessary that you have work experience equivalent of 2 years which can be completed before 2 years, depending on how many hours you worked in a week.

Now, MPT courses are very costly. In UK this course duration is normally 12 to 15 months. In Australia it is 2 years. In UK 1 year course will cost you around £12-15 thousand pounds which is equivalent to 13-17 lakh taka. If any of you can afford this much amount, go for it, u will be able to earn back every penny.

But for most of us, it is very difficult to pay this huge amount. Thus, we have to get scholarship, more specifically government scholarships. Scholarships are of 2 types: Government and University. Government scholarships are more prestigious, your tution will be paid in full and you will be getting monthly allowance. Most university scholarships will only cover your tuition fees in full amount or half, depending on which type of scholarship you were selected for.

For getting both type of scholarships, it is necessary that you have achieved relevant work experience in your field and secondly you have attained some voluntary experience. So, pay importance in achieving voluntary experience.

That was the overall requirements in a nutshell. Always remember, those of you who are good at english and have good writing and speaking skills, you have a great possibility ahead. Looking at the current situation of our profession in our country, it is better to try your luck abroad. If you get success and I believe you will, you will be able to enjoy your life to the fullest and help others.

Many physios choose to persue MPH as I did. But getting a job here in UK in the field of public health is more difficult than in Physiotherapy. I will say if you wanna go for it, go for MPT. Once you have achieved a UK or Australian degree in PT, then the whole world is open for you. Physiotherapy is on skilled migration list in every developed country. For me, I couldn't manage to get scholarship for MPT course which I got for MPH course and I didn't wanted to waste time in doing PSOSK job, thats why I took this opportunity. Time will say if the decision I took was right or wrong, I can only ask for your prayer.

It is my sincere belief that you guys can do it. And I will ask you guys atleast to give it a try. I know sometimes you get depressed by the current condition but trust me, It is your good luck that you have studied a subject which has a great demand in all the developed countries.

So, what should you do now? Start gathering relevant and voluntary work experience. Prepare yourself for IELTS. And keep your knowledge up-to-date regarding scholarships and University requirements. It is imperative that you spend time surfing websites of different scholarship and universities. I will share a link of the list of universities that offer MPT courses in UK. Do have a look at them and prepare yourself according to that. "

- বিভিন্ন ডিপ্লোমা কোর্স করতে পারবা যেমন ডিপ্লোমা ইন অর্থোপেডিক মেডিসিন।

- MPH ( Masters Of Public Health) করতে পারবা। MBBS সহ সব হেলথ প্রফেশনালস করে এটা.। WHO সহ International Organizations গুলায় কাজ করতে পারবা।

- বাইরে জব করতে চাইলে লাইসেন্স / রেজিষ্ট্রেশন এক্সাম দেওয়া লাগবে।
একেক দেশ একেক ধরনের এক্সাম নেয় ।
যেমন - USA তে National Physiotherapy Exam, Canada তে PCE
এমন।

১২) জেনারেল বিসিএস দেওয়া যায়। স্পেশাল কোটা নেই। ব্যাংক এক্সাম সহ সকল চাকুরির এক্সাম দিতে পারবা যদি প্রফেশনে না থাকতে চাও।

১৩) করোনার কারণে মাঝে একটু সেশনজট হয়েছে। তবে এখন নাই। আমাদের প্রফ রাইট টাইমে হচ্ছে সব। ৫/৬ মাস বেশি লাগবে যদি সাপ্লি না খাও। ইন্টার্নসহ ৫.৫-৬ বছর লাগবে বের হতে।

১৪) আমাদের কাউন্সিল BRC ( Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council) বর্তমানে সক্রিয় এবং গ্যাজেট আকারে পাশ করা হয়েছে সম্প্রতি।
