CIU Hosts 3rd Bangladesh AI Olympiad Regional Contest

Chittagong Independent University (CIU) successfully hosted the regional round of the 3rd Bangladesh AI Olympiad on May 9, 2026. Organized by the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), the event transformed the campus into a center for technological innovation as students from various regional institutions competed in high-level intellectual challenges. The competition focused on two core areas: the AI Quiz, which tested theoretical and mathematical foundations, and the AI Coding Challenge, which required participants to implement complex algorithms.

A key highlight of the day was a specialized technical workshop conducted by Samah Binth Feroz and Abdullah Al Nayem. The session served as an essential introduction to AI problem-solving, providing participants with deep insights into the practical applications of Machine Learning and bridging the gap between competitive logic and industry-standard engineering practices.

The prize-giving ceremony was graced by CIU Registrar Anjuman Banu as the Chief Guest, alongside Professor Dr. Aseef Iqbal , Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, and Dr. Rubell Sen Goopta , Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. During the session, the speakers highlighted the importance of such platforms in preparing the next generation for the global shift toward automation and intelligent systems.

The top performers of the AI Coding Challenge included Aqeed Iqbal Haque, A***n Abrar Chowdhury, and Tanushree Saha from Chattogram Cantonment Public College, Tashdeed Ahmed Chowdhury from Bangladesh Elementary School, Sayan Ahmed Khan from Presidency International School, and Md. Imteyaz Hossen from Govt. Haji Asmat College. In the AI Quiz category, top honors were awarded to students from CMP School and College, Cantonment English School and College, Bangladesh Elementary School, and Chittagong Grammar School. These successful candidates have secured their advancement to the National AI Olympiad, scheduled for May 16 in Dhaka, where they will compete for a position in the international delegation.

The CIUAI Center has officially begun its journey through a vibrant inauguration ceremony at Chittagong Independent University (CIU), opening new possibilities in research, innovation, and technology education. The inauguration event was held today, (7th May 2026), at the university conference room. The chief guest, joining virtually, was Dr. Zunaid Kazi, Founding Council Member of MillionX Bangladesh and Founder & CEO of Knowtomation.

The special guest at the event was Professor Dr. Mohammad Moshiul Hoque from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET). Joining virtually as an Guest of Honor was Mr. Munir Hasan, Founding Council Member of MillionX Bangladesh and President of BdOSN.

The speakers stated, “In today’s world, AI is not merely a technology; it is one of the key driving forces behind transformation in the economy, education, healthcare, and industry. The CIU AI Center will serve as an important platform for students to develop innovative thinking, research capabilities, and practical skills.”

The program was hosted by CIU Assistant Registrar Rooma Dass. The welcome speech was delivered by Professor Dr. Aseef Iqbal, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering. During the event, a presentation highlighting the various plans, research activities, and future goals of the CIU AI Center was delivered by the Center’s Director and Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dr. Md Sajjatul Islam.

The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. MM Nurul Absar. In his presidential speech, he said, “CIU is committed to equipping students with modern and relevant skills in line with global technological transformation. We are optimistic that the CIU AI Center will become a hub for future technology research and innovation.”

Deans of various faculties, department heads, faculty members, and university officials were also present at the program.

It is noteworthy that through the CIU AI Center, students will have opportunities to engage in research and practical training in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Data Science, Robotics, and Automation. In addition, the center will play a significant role in developing skilled human resources for the technology sector through national and international research collaborations, workshops, seminars, and industry connectivity.
