CIU Hosts โ€˜CIUPC Code Con 2026โ€™ Programming Competition

Chittagong Independent University (CIU) hosted the programming competition โ€œCIUPC Code Con 2026โ€ on its campus on 28th August 2026. The daylong event was organized by the CIU Programming Club (CIUPC) under the School of Science and Engineering (SSE).

The program was attended by Dr. Rubell Sen Goopta, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering under the School of Science and Engineering, as the chief guest. Md. Habibur Rahaman, Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Adviser to the CIU Programming Club, attended as the special guest. Faculty members, students, and professionals from the technology sector also took part in the event.

In their remarks, the guests encouraged students to develop technology-driven and innovation-oriented skills to prepare for future challenges and opportunities.

The main attraction of the event was the โ€œRace to Codeโ€ competition. In the first phase of the two-stage contest, participating teams took part in a campus-wide โ€œCode Scavenger Hunt,โ€ solving programming, debugging, logic, and technology-based puzzles. Teams that advanced then competed in the programming contest in the second phase.

As part of the event, a seminar titled โ€œFrom Campus to Career: Building Skills for Success in the AI Eraโ€ was held at the university auditorium. The session was conducted by Md. Anisul Islam, Senior Manager at Programming Hero. He highlighted the importance of essential career skills in the age of artificial intelligence, including continuous learning, adaptability, communication, and leadership.

According to the organizers, the event provided participants with valuable opportunities to strengthen their problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and leadership abilities, while gaining practical experience in competitive programming, career development, and emerging technologies.

The School of Science and Engineering at CIU regularly organizes such co-curricular and technology-focused initiatives to enhance studentsโ€™ skills, foster innovative thinking, and equip them with industry-relevant competencies. These initiatives play an important role in helping students complement their academic knowledge with practical expertise and prepare themselves for future careers.

CIU EEE Students Visit GEM Plant for Industrial Learning
Date: 22-07-2026

Students of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Chittagong Independent University (CIU) recently participated in an educational industrial visit to the General Electric Manufacturing Company Limited (GEMCO) Plant, one of the country's leading transformer manufacturing facilities. The visit was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Rubell Sen Goopta and Mr. Fahim Shahriar with the objective of providing students with practical exposure to transformer manufacturing and bridging the gap between classroom learning and industrial practice.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the officials of GEM Plant, who introduced them to the company's manufacturing operations, industrial practices, and workplace safety procedures. During the orientation session, Mr. Golam Rahman, Mechanical Engineer, and Mr. Md. Masudur Rahman, Electrical Engineer and Training In-Charge, provided a comprehensive overview of the plant's production processes and guided the students throughout the visit.
The tour began in the Mechanical Section, where students observed the complete fabrication process of transformer bodies. They gained first-hand knowledge of how transformer tanks, covers, cooling fans, and other structural components are manufactured through various processes, including steel sheet cutting, punching, bending, drilling, welding, and assembly. The session highlighted the importance of precision engineering, quality control, and modern manufacturing techniques in ensuring product reliability.
The students then visited the Electrical Section, where they observed the manufacturing and assembly of transformers' internal electrical components. They learned about the preparation of High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) windings, insulation techniques, core assembly, electrical joint welding, terminal connections, and the final assembly process. The engineers also explained the significance of quality assurance and testing procedures in ensuring transformer efficiency, operational safety, and long-term performance.
The participants expressed that the industrial visit provided them with valuable practical insights into modern transformer manufacturing technologies and industrial operations. They noted that the experience strengthened their technical knowledge, enhanced their understanding of real-world engineering applications, and reinforced the concepts learned in the classroom.
The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at CIU believes that such industrial visits play a vital role in developing students' practical skills, professional competence, and industry readiness, thereby preparing them to meet the challenges of their future engineering careers.
