Presidency University's Department of Civil Engineering celebrated 'Civil Engineering Harmony Day 2024' on December 20 at Fantasy Kingdom. Around 800 students, faculty members, officials, and staff attended the event, which was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of Presidency University, Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan Chowdhury.

The Dean of the Business School, Professor Abul Kalam, and the University Registrar, Mr. Sakir Hossain, attended as special guests. Former Bangladesh National Cricket Team player Javed Omar Belim was also a special attraction. The event was presided over by Mr. Mostafizur Rahman, with distinguished guests including Dr. Shihabuddin, Head of the EEE Department, and Mr. Jahid Hasan, Deputy Director of Admissions, Promotion, and PR. The day featured engaging events, a cultural evening, and a vibrant concert.

বিভিন্ন সামাজিক যোগাযোগের মাধ্যমে গুজব ছড়ান অনেকে। গুজবের কারণে বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে ভুল-বোঝাবুঝির পাশাপাশি নেতিবাচক ঘটনা ঘটার আশঙ্কা থাকে। তাই নিজেদের প্ল্যাটফর্মের মাধ্যমে অনলাইনে গুজব ছড়ানো ঠেকাতে ব্যবহারকারীদের আদান-প্রদান করা ওয়েবসাইটের লিংক বা সংবাদ যাচাই করার সুবিধা চালু করতে যাচ্ছে হোয়াটসঅ্যাপ।

ওয়েবসাইটের লিংকের মাধ্যমে ভুয়া তথ্য ও গুজব ছড়ানো ঠেকাতে নেওয়া এ উদ্যোগের আওতায় ফিনিক্স সাইকেল ভর্তি যত্ন, কিউইডি-প্রাইভেট বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ভর্তি যত্ন বা অপরিচিত যেকোনো ব্যক্তির পাঠানো ওয়েবসাইটের লিংক বা সংবাদের সত্যতা হোয়াটসঅ্যাপ থেকেই যাচাই করা যাবে। ফলে ভুয়া তথ্য ছড়ানো ব্যক্তিদের সম্পর্কে আগে থেকেই সতর্ক থাকা যাবে। সার্চ অন ওয়েব নামের নতুন এ সুবিধা এরই মধ্যে হোয়াটসঅ্যাপের অ্যান্ড্রয়েড ২.২৪.২০.২৮ বেটা সংস্করণে যুক্ত করা হয়েছে। নির্দিষ্ট ব্যবহারকারীদের মতামত নিয়ে শিগগিরই সুবিধাটি সবার জন্য উন্মুক্ত করা হতে পারে।

"State University inspires their students to consider government jobs, especially for the BCS exam, by facilitating sessions with experts. Additionally, we took the initiative to invite CEOs of corporations and HR heads to our campus for a series of programs. This allows them to learn about the capabilities of our students, and our students can learn from them how to tackle interview boards and understand other job qualifications. Additionally, we regularly hold job fairs on our campus," mentions Mohammad Omar Faraque, Director, Public Relations Department, State University of Bangladesh.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is planning to allow private universities to introduce PhD programs after much debate. A committee has been formed to draft a policy to facilitate this initiative, with the committee expected to discuss it with relevant stakeholders.

Currently, only 56 approved public universities in Bangladesh offer PhD programs, while none of the 114 private universities are permitted to offer the degree. Private universities have been spending a lot in the research sector, with 84 of them allocating an average of Tk 1.53 crore of their budget only for research. This has led to a long-standing demand to introduce PhD programs at capable private universities.

A six-member committee has been formed to produce a draft policy on this issue. The committee is instructed to develop PhD coursework or research-related modules appropriate for different academic disciplines or clusters through a panel of experts.

এই ইমপ্যাক্ট র‍্যাংকিংয়ে সামগ্রিকভাবে ড্যাফোডিল ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটি বাংলাদেশি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়গুলোর মধ্যে প্রথম এবং বিশ্বব্যাপী ৩০১-৪০০তম অবস্থানের মাঝে রয়েছে। তালিকায় দ্বিতীয় অবস্থানে রয়েছে ব্র্যাক ইউনিভার্সিটি এবং তৃতীয় অবস্থানে রয়েছে ইউনাইটেড ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটি।

The US Embassy's EducationUSA platform held a University Fair in Bangladesh, featuring representatives from five universities. Students discussed admission programs, scholarship opportunities, and application forms. An information session on the F-1 student visa process was also organized. EducationUSA, a global network of over 430 consulting centers, provides free information on study opportunities in the US from counseling centers in Bangladesh.

The Supreme Court in Bangladesh has ordered private universities to pay a 15% tax on their earnings. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court issued the order, allowing the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to collect income tax from private educational institutions. The decision follows 46 separate writ petitions filed by private universities. The High Court declared illegal government orders imposing a 15% tax on private institutions in 2016 and invalidated three statutory regulatory orders for tax imposition. The Appellate Division overturned the Chamber Judge's directives, instructing the NBR not to demand or collect income tax from private universities until further orders.

Primeasia University is holding an admission fair for the Spring 2024 semester, offering a special discount on admission fees and a 5-10% discount in the regular 21 categories for spot admission. বাংলাদেশ উন্মুক্ত বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং ফারইস্ট ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটির মধ্যে শিক্ষা, গবেষণা ও প্রশিক্ষণ বিষয়ে সহযোগিতামূলক পদক্ষেপ বাস্তবায়নের নিমিত্তে সমঝোতা স্মারক স্বাক্ষর করা হয়েছে। বাউবি উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ডক্টর সৈয়দ হুমায়ুন আখতারের সভাপতিত্বে তার গাজীপুর অফিস সংলগ্ন কনফারেন্স হলে মঙ্গলবার (১৬ জানুয়ারি) এই চুক্তি নবায়ন করা হয়েছে। বাউবির পক্ষে রেজিস্ট্রার ডক্টর মহা. শফিকুল আলম এবং ফারইস্ট ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটির পক্ষে রেজিস্ট্রার মো. মশিউর রহমান সমঝোতা স্মারকে স্বাক্ষর করেন।

অনুষ্ঠানের সভাপতি বাউবি উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. সৈয়দ হুমায়ুন আখতার বলেন, এই চুক্তির মাধ্যমে একাডেমিক কোলাবরেশনে দুই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বিশেষ অবদান রাখবে। স্মার্ট এবং সাসটেইনেবল এডুকেশনের মাধ্যমে দেশ, শিক্ষা এবং অর্থনীতিতে সমৃদ্ধ হবে। তিনি আরো বলেন, হেলদি সোসাইটি গঠিত হলে দেশ, শিক্ষা এবং অর্থনীতিতে আরো এগিয়ে যাবে। আমাদের স্মার্ট এডুকেশন দরকার, যা হবে কর্মমূখী। তিনি উভয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উদ্যোগে কারিগরি শিক্ষার উপর জোর দিয়ে প্রান্তিক পর্যায় পর্যন্ত দক্ষ কর্মী তৈরির কথা উল্লেখ করেন। দক্ষ কর্মী তৈরি হলে বিদেশ থেকে আমাদের রেমিটেন্স বৃদ্ধি পাবে। যার মাধ্যমে দেশ আরও উন্নত ও সমৃদ্ধ হবে। তিনি গবেষণার মাধ্যমে নতুন জ্ঞান সৃষ্টি ও স্মার্ট হেলদি সোসাইটি গঠনে প্যারেন্টিং এর উপর কোর্স চালুর কথা উল্লেখ করেন, যার মাধ্যমে নতুন কর্মক্ষেত্র তৈরি হবে। বাউবি’র সকল প্রোগ্রামের পাঠসামগ্রী ওয়েববেজড্ এবং স্মার্ট করা হবে, যাতে শিক্ষার্থীরা যে কোনো অবস্থানে থেকে আরো সহজে শিখন প্রক্রিয়ায় অংশগ্রহণ করতে পারেন।
