Econ DU Women's Sports

Econ DU Women's Sports Econ DU Women Sports is an initiative started by the 100th batch of female students of the Economics department, University of Dhaka.

It is the first female sports team to be formed in the 100-year-long history of this department. Econ DU Women’s Sports is an initiative started by 100th batch for the female students of Economics department, University of Dhaka. It is the first female sports team to be formed in the 100-year-long history of this department. It represents who we are and promotes leadership, unity, cooperation, menta

l health, physical fitness, and gender equality. In the past, female students have only extended support and cheered as they watched their male classmates partake in various sporting events. However, there was a lack of female participation. Since there was no team, there were no avenues to learn and demonstrate their skills. That is why Nazifa Zahin (team leader) and a group of female students decided to take the initiative to try and change the status quo. The support and hard work of the entire batch, specifically the female students, has made this dream a reality. Since the majority of the students voted for playing basketball and badminton among other avenues, the team is currently holding practice sessions for basketball during the summer and badminton in the winter time. We plan to expand and open other sports avenues soon. We also have our highly qualified coaches beside us to guide and teach us the strategies of each sport. For any queries, feel free to message Nazifa Zahin (team leader).

⚡ Shorna Akter Ignites Bangladesh’s Charge!

What a night, in the clash against South Africa, the 18 year old lit up the scoreboard with a blazing 50 off just 34 balls, smashing the fastest fifty ever by a Bangladeshi in WODIs 💥

Coming in when momentum was key, she responded with power, precision and unshakeable confidence launching three sixes and pacing her attack to lift the total to 232/6.

Though the result didn’t go our way today, her innings stood out as a true display of determination and promise.

We stand in awe of her courage, her fire, and the pride she brings to every Bangladeshi fan 🇧🇩.

𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐝(2022-2025)!

Time has come for Econ DU women's squad of Batch 100 to say goodbye to the sports community,at least for now.
Econ Du Women’s Sports started as a simple practice basketball game in our freshman year with a dream to make sports more inclusive for women.Over the years,it has evolved into something way bigger than we ever imagined. Many female students, both inside and outside the department answered our call. We built, stumbled, and got back up again each time pushing harder, proving what passion and teamwork can achieve.
To everyone who helped, cheered, and played a part in this journey, thank you. You helped turn a small idea into a movement.
Here’s to the future of women’s sports at Econ DU—
keep the ball rolling!!

For women, carving out a space for themselves in sports has always been an uphill battle in Bangladesh. In spite of socioeconomic barriers, courageous women have been breaking the glass ceiling over the last few decades to emerge successful in sports.

Rani Hamid, country’s first international master in chess, has a long career marked with triumphs and accolades. Her journey in chess has inspired generations and made her a national icon.
Zinnat Ferdous,a Bangladesh born New York native boxer, is now representing Bangladesh in the international competitions.

These star women are encouraging, promoting and creating a conducive ecosystem for the inclusion of more women in sports.
