BUFT Research and Innovation Society successfully organized a comprehensive seminar on Research Methodology. The session was conducted by Dr. Mohammad Raza Miah, Assistant Professor in the Department of Textile Engineering at BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT).
The presentation provided a deep dive into the foundational principles, structural types, modern tools, and exact steps required to execute high-impact research.
Few Takeaways from the Session:
• Defining the Framework: Research is a scientific process to solve problems and expand knowledge. While methods are the specific techniques used to gather data (like surveys or experiments), methodology represents the overarching philosophy and logical justification behind those choices.
• Types of Research: The presentation broke down research by purpose (Theoretical vs. Applied), depth (Exploratory, Descriptive, Explanatory, Correlational), and timeline (Cross-Sectional vs. Longitudinal).
• The 8-Step Process: Participants walked through the complete research lifecycle, spanning problem identification, literature review, hypothesis formulation, research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
• The Modern Toolkit: Our mentor highlighted essential resources for modern researchers, including citation managers (Zotero, Mendeley), writing assistants (Quillbot, PaperPal), and data analysis software (R, SPSS, NVivo).
• Pillars of Success: To achieve global standard outputs—like patents, theses, or journal articles—research must strictly maintain validity, reliability, objectivity, and ethical integrity.
This milestone session successfully expanded knowledge, sparked curiosity, and laid down the exact roadmap for BRIS members to successfully author top-notch research papers.
Thank you to Dr. Mohammad Raza Miah for sharing his valuable industry and academic insights, and to all the regular participants for making this initiative a massive success!
