The IEEE IUB Student Branch —the major student club of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), IUB—successfully concluded its General Member Meet-Up 2026 on 9th August 2026. This event brought together students, former IEEE leaders, EEE Department alumni, and recent graduates for an engaging platform of mentorship, networking, leadership development, and career guidance.

The General Member Meet-Up 2026 was conceptualized and initiated by Prof. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, Head of the Department of EEE, IUB and Branch Counselor of IEEE IUB Student Branch, with the vision of creating a stronger bridge between current students, former IEEE leaders, alumni, and the professional world.

From real-world career insights and alumni experiences to exciting new leadership opportunities through the upcoming Sub-Executive Committee Election, the Meet-Up reflected the mission of IEEE IUB Student Branch—empowering EEE students beyond the classroom and preparing the next generation of engineers to connect, grow, and lead.

Tazrian Noor, a graduate and former Research Engineer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has secured a fully funded PhD position in Applied Science and Technology at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T), USA.

He left for the USA on August 12, 2026, and starting this Fall, he will begin his doctoral study focusing on near-field optical spectroscopy tools for the characterization of conventional and emerging semiconductor materials.

Tazrian began his undergraduate studies at IUB in Spring 2020 with a 100% merit scholarship and graduated in 2023 with a CGPA of 3.67. He received the Cum Laude distinction at IUB’s 25th Convocation and was included on several of the university’s academic honor and merit lists during his undergraduate studies.

Getting a fully funded PhD offer in USA straight after a bachelor's degree is unusual, as most international applicants first earn a master's degree to build the research record such positions demand. As an undergraduate student, Noor joined the IUB Photonics Simulation Laboratory (IUBPSL), a research group under the Department of EEE supervised by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, Head of the Department of EEE, IUB.

Tazrian’s research at IUBPSL focused on computational photonics, optoelectronic device modeling, nanophotonics, and semiconductor technologies. During his time at IUBPSL, Tazrian co-authored two research articles published in Scopus-ranked Q1 journals and contributed to eight peer-reviewed IEEE conference publications, serving as lead author in three. A conference paper he co-authored under an IUB-sponsored research grant received the Best Paper Award in the Poster Paper Presentation category at the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Quantum Photonics, Artificial Intelligence, and Networking (QPAIN).

“Tazrian’s sustained involvement in research at IUBPSL allowed him to develop the technical and research skills required for advanced study in photonics and semiconductor technologies. His transition to a funded doctoral program reflects the foundation he built through his academic and research work at IUB,” said Prof. Chowdhury.

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Independent University, Bangladesh is proud to see the achievements of the IUB FormulaE team featured by Channel 24 during Bangladesh AutoFest 2026, orgaized by Eeleven-E11 and The Slow Kids on 17-18 July 2026 at ALOKI on the Tejgaon-Gulshan Link Road in Dhaka

At the Department of EEE, IUB, engineering education extends far beyond the classroom. Through hands-on research and student-led innovation in electric vehicles, renewable energy, robotics, embedded systems, power electronics, VLSI Design, machine learning, and photonics, students are empowered to develop practical solutions to real-world engineering challenges.

A shining example of this commitment is IUB FormulaE, where students successfully designed and built a fully self-developed electric vehicle (EV) powertrain for their Formula Student electric race car, including the motor controller, embedded control system, power electronics, and a redesigned induction motor. The IUB FormulaE team is funded by the Department of EEE, IUB and mostly composed of students and researchers of the Department of EEE, IUB working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Khosru Mohammad Salim. Their recent qualification for Formula Student China 2025 stands as a testament to the team's technical excellence, innovation, and unwavering dedication.

The Department congratulates the entire IUB FormulaE team for representing both the Department of EEE, IUB and Independent University, Bangladesh with distinction. Welcoming the Future Electrical and Electronic Engineers of IUB! ⚡🔬

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) was delighted to welcome prospective students and their families during the Autumn 2026 Admission Exam (Slot-1) on Friday, July 24, 2026.

As part of the admission day activities, the Department organized an engaging orientation session led by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, Head of the EEE Department, with enthusiastic support from the faculty and staff of the EEE Department, IEEE IUB Student Branch and dedicated EEE student volunteers.

The session provided an overview of the B.Sc. in EEE and ETE programs, highlighting the Department's commitment to academic excellence, cutting-edge research, industry engagement, and student success. The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of IUB, in collaboration with the IEEE IUB Student Branch, held its EEE Seminar Series 2026 and introduced the department's first Mega Quiz Competition in June 2026, a new format that ties seminar attendance to a graded assessment. The quiz tested participants on the technical content of the seminars, requiring students to engage actively with the talks and retain what was presented rather than attend passively. The department introduced the format to reward close attention during technical sessions and to reinforce the material afterwards.
