The Blood Cancer Awareness Seminar organized by the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (BGE), United International university (UIU) was successfully completed.

It was an inspiring, highly informative, and interactive scientific event where leading clinicians and researchers shared their expertise on blood cancer, cancer immunology, translational research, and the rapidly evolving field of cell & gene therapy. The engaging discussions provided valuable insights for students and young researchers who aspire to build the next generation of cancer research and advanced cellular therapies in Bangladesh.

As part of Blood Cancer Awareness Month, the UIU Biotech Club successfully organized its first program—a Blood Donation Campaign in collaboration with the Quantum Foundation Bangladesh.
With the enthusiastic support of our students as volunteers and the generous participation of our university community, many donors came forward to contribute toward saving lives. We were also honored by the presence of respected university authorities and guests who encouraged this meaningful initiative.

🩸 সেপ্টেম্বর: ব্লাড ক্যান্সার সচেতনতা মাস

ব্লাড ক্যান্সার মানেই শেষ নয়। ব্লাড ক্যান্সার হলো রক্ত, অস্থিমজ্জা ও লসিকাতন্ত্রের বিভিন্ন ক্যান্সারের একটি সমষ্টি। এর প্রধান ধরনগুলোর মধ্যে রয়েছে Leukemia, Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) এবং Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN)। সময়মতো শনাক্তকরণ ও সঠিক রোগ নির্ণয় চিকিৎসার সফলতার জন্য অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

🔬 নির্ভুল রোগ নির্ণয়

ব্লাড ক্যান্সার নির্ণয়ে CBC, peripheral blood smear, bone marrow examination, flow cytometry/immunophenotyping, cytogenetic analysis, FISH, PCR এবং Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) ব্যবহার করা হয়। বিশেষ করে NGS রোগের জিনগত পরিবর্তন শনাক্ত করে সঠিক রোগ শ্রেণিবিন্যাস, ঝুঁকি নির্ধারণ এবং উপযুক্ত চিকিৎসা নির্বাচনে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখে।

🧬 Precision Medicine

প্রতিটি রোগীর ক্যান্সারের molecular profile ভিন্ন হতে পারে। তাই genomic and molecular information ব্যবহার করে রোগীর জন্য আরও নির্দিষ্ট ও ব্যক্তিকেন্দ্রিক চিকিৎসা পরিকল্পনা করা সম্ভব। সঠিক molecular diagnosis → সঠিক treatment → better outcomes—এটাই precision medicine-এর মূল লক্ষ্য।

💊 আধুনিক চিকিৎসা

রোগের ধরন ও molecular বৈশিষ্ট্যের ওপর ভিত্তি করে chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy এবং hematopoietic stem-cell/bone-marrow transplantation ব্যবহার করা হয়। নির্বাচিত কিছু blood cancer-এ CAR-T cell therapy-র মতো অত্যাধুনিক cellular immunotherapy-ও নতুন আশার সৃষ্টি করেছে।
