Standardized under ISO 4915 and ASTM D6193, stitch types are categorized into six primary classes based on their formation geometry, thread count, and interlacing method.

Here is the essence of garment architecture, refined to its six core silhouettes:

* Class 100 · The Ephemeral Loop (Single-Thread Chainstitch)

* Essence: A single thread looping upon itself. Simple, swift, and easily undone with a single pull.
* Machine: Blindstitch or basting machine.
* Allure in Apparel: Invisible trouser hems, temporary couture tacking, and delicate button anchors.

* Class 200 · The Bespoke Touch (Hand & Pick Stitch)

* Essence: The deliberate, rhythmic passage of a single thread through fabric, honoring the craft of the human hand.
* Machine: AMF Reece specialty hand-stitch machine.
* Allure in Apparel: Luxurious pick-stitched lapels on bespoke suiting, silky jacket linings, and fine couture accents.

* Class 300 · The Unyielding Bond (Lockstitch)

* Essence: Needle and bobbin locking threads dead-center between layers. Symmetrical, crisp, and structurally unshakeable.
* Machine: Single/Double-Needle Lockstitch (SNLS).
* Allure in Apparel: Flawless shirt collars, sharp topstitching, and the structural seams of tailored wovens.

* Class 400 · The Resilient Flex (Multi-Thread Chainstitch)

* Essence: Needle threads interlooped with an agile underside looper, yielding strength that stretches without snapping.
* Machine: Feed-off-the-arm or multi-needle chainstitch machine.
* Allure in Apparel: Heavy-duty denim inseams, rugged waistband construction, and flexible high-stress joints.

* Class 500 · The Sculpted Edge (Overlock / Serger)

* Essence: An integrated blade slices fabric clean while fine loopers encase raw edges in a protective thread cocoon.
* Machine: 3 to 5-thread Overlock/Safety Stitch machine.
* Allure in Apparel: Supple T-shirt seams, fray-proof interior finishes, and fluid, stretchy knit silhouettes.

* Class 600 · The Second Skin (Coverstitch / Flatlock)

* Essence: Multi-needle surface webs paired with an under-looper to create ultra-flat, frictionless, high-stretch coverage.
* Machine: Flatlock / Flatbed Interlock machine.

We are thrilled to celebrate a remarkable milestone achieved by Md. Shefat E Nur (3rd Batch) from the “Department of Apparel Merchandising & Management (DAMM)”International Standard University (ISU)!

Shefat demonstrated outstanding technical knowledge and dedication at the national level program “The Art of Smart Spinning: A Fibre-to-Yarn Journey”, organized by the Textile Engineers Association (TEA) at Ahsanullah University of Engineering and Technology (AUST).

Competing against *528* talented candidates from top-ranked textile universities across Bangladesh like BUTEX, BUFT, SEU etc. Shefat achieved an incredible *11th position!* In recognition of this outstanding performance he was been awarded an exclusive opportunity to visit *Shajahan Spinning Mills Ltd.* for hands-on industrial exposure.

By excelling on such a competitive national stage, Shefat has not only showcased the caliber of our department but has brought immense pride and glory to the entire university community.

🌟 Celebrating Our Student’s Achievement! 🌟

We are delighted to share that Taharim Jahan Jemi from Batch 2 of the Department of Apparel Merchandising & Management proudly participated in “Threads & Strokes – A Textile Art Exhibition,” organized at AUST.

Jemi showcased her artwork, “Wheel of Tradition,” inspired by the traditional Bengali spinning wheel (Chorka). The artwork beautifully reflects our cultural heritage, self-reliance, and the timeless artistry of traditional handcraftsmanship.

We are proud to see our students exploring the intersection of textile & apparel, creativity, art, and culture beyond the classroom. Congratulations, Jemi, on this wonderful achievement! 🎨🧵❤️

Easy Guide: How Spinning Mills Recycle Old Clothes into Yarn

Have you ever wondered how old clothes and fabric scraps get turned back into yarn? Spinning mills use two main ways to do this. Let's look at them in a super simple way!

1. Mechanical Recycling (The Shredding Method)

This is the most common and old-school way used in spinning mills.
* How it works: Machines with tiny, sharp spikes grab old fabric or clothes and literally rip them apart until they turn back into loose fibers.
* The challenge: Because the machine tears the fabric so hard, the individual fibers get chopped up and become much shorter.
* In the mill: Short fibers are harder to spin into strong yarn. Mill workers have to slow down their machines and adjust them very carefully so the yarn doesn't break.

2. Chemical Recycling (The Melting & Dissolving Method)

This is a newer, high-tech way used mostly for mixed fabrics (like cotton mixed with polyester).
* How it works: Instead of tearing the fabric, factories use special liquids and chemicals to melt or dissolve the old clothes.
* The result: The chemicals clean everything out, break the materials down to their basic building blocks, and turn them into brand-new, clean fibers that look and feel just like virgin materials.
* The challenge: It takes a lot of energy, special equipment, and high costs, so standard spinning mills usually cannot do this right on their factory floors.

Quick Summary
* Shredding (Mechanical): Cheap and easy to do, but makes the fibers shorter and weaker.
* Chemicals: Makes the fibers look and feel brand new, but costs a lot of money and needs big industrial plants.
