AI brands are becoming phishing bait.

Microsoft Threat Intelligence has reported campaigns impersonating popular AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, and DeepSeek. In one ChatGPT-themed campaign, up to 100,000 phishing emails were sent in a single day, attempting to steal payment and personal information.

These attacks do not mean the AI services were compromised. Attackers are simply exploiting the trust and curiosity around familiar AI brands.

Before clicking an AI-related email, ad, plugin, or download:

• Check the sender and domain carefully.
• Avoid entering passwords or payment details through unexpected links.
• Download AI tools only from official sources.

The technology may be new, but the social engineering principle is not. Attackers still win by borrowing trust.

━━━━━━━ 🔘 ━━━━━━━

AI agents need more than a secure prompt.

AI agents can now access data, use tools, and perform tasks on behalf of users. But what happens if an agent follows a malicious instruction hidden in a document or webpage?

Recent guidance from AWS and SANS highlights why security must be enforced beyond the prompt. An agent should only access the data and tools it is authorized to use, and sensitive actions should be checked by proper security controls.

The key lesson: Do not rely on the AI model alone to enforce security. Apply least privilege, validate tool permissions, and monitor agent activity.

As AI becomes more capable, understanding how to secure its actions is becoming an essential cybersecurity skill.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
